Using the T1M and 35W radio as repeater

I've heard this is now available. Anyone used it yet and care to offer instructions? I'm sure there's something to download into the 35W radio.
I think the process is to use the 1W radio in the 1M, then set your 35W on a high point anywhere(within basic range of the 1W), even in the middle of the thickest of coverage, and the 35W becomes a repeater.

I would hope the T1M and radio should come configured and ready to go on new orders when the 35watt is intended to be used as a receiver.

I asked about this when I bought my T1Ms. I configured to work on BT as I was told that by doing this it limits the radio... I just can't recall exactly why. I always thought that would be the perfect setup, toss the T1M up, if you run out of radio, toss the 35w up too, no extra configuring, but that was not the case.

Would still love to have the JAVAD app have a radio config section with presets so all you have to do is tap a preset and it all auto configs the way you want.

You should update the UHF firmware of the radios to the latest versions. The Prerelease version of J-Field now has a tool to configure repeaters.
So not fully ready yet - as in release version.
I'd rather just hang on in release until it gets moved forward.
With three LS's that we mix/match on several jobs it's better for me to stay release or we have problems with this job started in pre and then the other LS not being able to unpack archives of it....

Hopefully (;):rolleyes:) all the new goodies like Linux, this repeater function, etc. will be out in a matter of days.....

So not fully ready yet - as in release version.

The only thing that is not supported in the Release version is the configuration of the repeater itself. The base radio just needs to have "Base Transmitter to Repeater" option enable in Base/Rover Setup > UHF Configuration > Others

You can also update the radio firmware from UHF Configuration > Update FW. The process will take about 8 minutes when updating through the Bluetooth connection so be patient.

To configure the repeater, you just need to use Javad Mobile Tools or ModemVU. I have attached some instruction I wrote to configure it through ModemVU. Be sure to update to the latest firmware for the repeater too.

There are some minimum separations between the radios that are recommended to prevent data loss:

Ok, got it. So when the new release comes out it will just eliminate having to use JMT or Modem VU.

So if I change UHF config and click "base transmitter to repeater", then I'll, of course, have to change it back when running "normally"?
Could I set up a specific profile of some sort to be able to accomplish this with just a couple clicks (actually changing the UHF config is not many).

Got a big nasty un we started yesterday I wanted to try this on, but it'll have to wait. Hardly NO open areas and 250'+ of elevation changes.

May try tinkering with it over the long weekend.

Just a thought... Or idea...
Long Range bluetooth has been out for quite some time.
IF long range bluetooth were used, as the link, between base and radio, then we ALREADY have much of the programming in place.
Topcon uses BT as link between ROBOT and Data collector, which is on the pole, with prism.
I'm told 2000' line of sight works clean.

Anyway, how much trouble would it to begin using LONG RANGE blue tooth, between T1m, and the radio?

Maybe it could also go between the T-2 and the radio.

It might simplify things...

It will work with "base transmitter to repeater" checked without there actually being a repeater but there will be slightly more delay in the corrections. You could have two UHF profiles but you will need to have "base transmitter to repeater" checked when configuring and starting the base if you are going to use a repeater.

Well, Matt, you are right. However, components are a variable. That's why I posted.

IF from a certain date forward, all the units were EQUIPPED with long range bluetooth, it simply opens many possibilities.

Somebody even had a BT Repeater.

For example, that with that HARDWARE change, I could set the T2, or T1M, or an EXTRA LS, (LS on base) up in the meadow. (Not very good radio location) then drive to local hilltop, and set up radio, on my own mast. This would WORK NOW, with no deep software changes.

Now, I can put up ANOTHER radio, set as repeater, and we have data flow: Base, <BT to Radio 1> then, radio 2 set as REPEATER, and we simply have expanded possibilities.

I want to PROMOTE the idea of getting the long range bluetooth HARDWARE in the units, as the things it does... are good.

Another thing, IF long range bluetooth were in the units now, we could USE it to change channels, from a GOOD distance. Some of us work in areas with LIMITED access Freeways. It's a LONG way around, to get close enough to the BASE to connect, via BT. IF it had high power BT, we could access the BASE from across the freeway, or Toll Way. 2 way communication, from a long distance is good.

For those of us, with older gear, we'd have to send it in, and PAY a fee, to get the hardware upgrade, if it were that important to us.

Long range BT simply opens up many doors. It's there. Might as well use it. (I don't believe it's a large change, in component prices, if implemented at time of manufacture).

John Evers was working with LR BT (Long Range BlueTooth) at one time, as he worked to develop his own data collector. (long ago).

There are MANY other things, that can be done with LR BT. Such as data in a tablet, or such.

Thank you for your consideration. I do not know even if this is feasible. ie, if it could or would interfere with other operations.

If it's a minor hardware change, then it would be good.
