Background Maps disappeared

I finally figured out how to put background maps into the Triumph LS, and I was finding them very useful, but now they're gone. The only thing in \Mounted Volume\Release\Background Maps is WorldLite. I'm guessing they got deleted when I upgraded JField to 2.0.5.1011. Can I get them back, or do I need to make them with Justin Link again?

You will need to copy to the LS again. You should store it on the SD Card at "SD Card\VS Data\BackgroundMaps" so that it does not get deleted when installing updates.

Do you have a link for instructions on how to do this?

There is a whole manual on the website specifically for background maps: http://www.javad.com/downloads/javadgnss/manuals/hardware/Triumph-LS_Getting_Background_Maps.pdf

It states to connect the LS to the PC through the USB cable but I would recommend you copy the background map to a USB drive or cloud drive and then copy and paste it (from the Menu button in the Files > Browse Files screen) to the designation. You will also need to create the BackgroundMaps folder with the menu button.

There are probably easier ways to do this, but here's how I got it to work.

In Google Earth, add a new path and select a few points in the area of interest. This could just be a diagonal across the area of interest. It's used for determining extent, not the edges of the background map.
Save the new path as a kml or kmz file.
Ctrl-Shift-T to add a new path, click to add points, OK, Right click on new path in Places pane, Save Place As..., save as kml or kmz.

Start Justin Link
Start a new project, giving it a name and a path. Name could just be Temp, and path could just be Desktop.

Select Project menu, Import Files, change file type to kml/kmz, import the kml file you just saved from GE. This will get Justin Link zoomed to the area of interest.
In the lower left corner, select Map tab.
In the left pane, right click on Added Layers, select Add Google Layer, Satellite. Satellite photo appears.
Again right click on Added Layers, select TVS Background, save the sqlitedb file. Check Create since first level, then OK.

Copy the sqlitedb file to the SD Card at SD Card\VS Data\BackgroundMaps. This can be done with USB and Windows Mobile Device Center, or as Matt said, you can send it to the cloud drive and move it with the LS.

On the LS, choose Collect, Project, Edit Current Project, Background Map, and select the background map you saved.

I have found that the LS will not display full Google Earth resolution, even if I check Create since first layer.

Is there a map source for Mobile Atlas Creator with higher resolution satellite imagery of the USA than what is available from Google Earth? The only one I see is USGS National Map Satellite, which is much older and lower resolution than what GE offers.

I agree this way is easy. The biggest advantage with Mobile Atlas Creator is that maps with the highest zoom levels can be created over large areas. I don't see that this is possible with Justin Link. Do you ever plan to implement this?
I am not sure that it is what we need.

I would like it if there were a dpos like feature, where we could load:
All GE images within 25 miles of any given coord.

Or all the usgs maps, seamlesly, for an entire state, or all of the conus.
Or, for an entire region, or country.
As memory gets cheaper, and more maps become available, we could have a menu, to select which background map to use, at any particular time.
I know I'm dreaming... But as memory gets cheaper... It may become possible.
Also, to be able to select any thing on the usgs, and stake it, would be good, to search with.
Just dreaming...

I have used multiple methods to create background images for use in the Triumph LS, and none of them were what I would call intuitive.

The ability to directly import a Geotiff, or a Geospatial PDF would be a tremendous step in the right direction.
Projection info is included in the header.
Both of these file formats are easily created in numerous GIS and third party surveying applications.

QGIS is able export either of these formats quite easily from the layout manager, and it is possible to control the resolution of the output file.
You are also able to use the Quickmap Services plugin within QGIS to acquire a wide variety of imagery including Google Earth.
I have attempted to export a Spatialite image dbf file from QGIS in the past, however I got an error from the LS when attempting to use it.
I was successful with the Spatialite export from Global Mapper, but the quality of the image was poor at best.
The MOBAC software was a non-performer for me, but I did not put too much effort into it.
One of the issues I saw in using imagery within the LS was rendering speed when working in a large area.
With a complicated vector map along with background imagery covering approximately 20 square miles, rendering, and screen refreshes
were very time consuming.
