Sticky Top

My T2 is starting to exhibit sticky top syndrome. It's not too serious yet, but I do have to peel it out of its Pelican case I'm the morning. Is there any consensus on the best way to deal with this?

I was having the same thing last year, never knew why, thought it was pollen or tree sap....any way last July my wife came in the office picked up the T-2 looking like this.

The appearance doesn't bother me much, it's the stickiness I'd like to get rid of. Did Mr. Clean get that off, too?

There is a UV spray on application that Matt S recommends...I forget which one it was now but it is rumored to help prevent that.

I also tried isopropyl alcohol (made it worse!), Formula 409 (no effect) and Simple Green (no effect), so I ordered some of the UV protectant that Matt referred to. In the mean time I went with a decidedly low-tech solution: cornstarch. About half a teaspoon is all that's needed, I rubbed it all over the case, then lightly wiped the case with a damp sponge. No more stickiness! I don't know how long it'll last, but at least the T2 won't stick to the foam in my Pelican case for the time being.

I think I did wipe mine down with water and let sit the night before all the tack was off.

The cornstarch approach didn't last, it's sticky again. I applied some of the 303 Aerospace protectant, but that didn't improve the sticky situation.

It has been so long I am trying to remember the exact manner in which I did it, and I remember the sticky, but I did eliminate it.....

I tried dry at first, but that just tore up the eraser. I added water next, it was still a tough go and the eraser got pretty well trashed, but at least I was able to scrub the receiver. But it didn't do anything for the stickiness.

I'd recommend sending it in and getting the cover replaced. Then treat the new cover with UV protectant. I think once it gets sticky, it's already broken down.
