I-Field Crashing when File gets loaded with Linework

Today had a recurring issue on a large job. On each outing to this site, i add additional linework (alignments and also imported lines from CAD) in order to work from. As i added today’s file, the LS began to crash every 10 minutes or so. I would attempt to stake an alignment and it would take several minutes to render the line work in the file. Then after several reboots, the unit prompted me to reboot again in order “optimize memory performance”. I completed the request (i was forced to complete the task after several reminders). Once the LS rebooted, i checked the memory on the internal and also on the SD card. Both had over 9gb of remaining space. I then began unloading pages from the map to see if that would fix it, and that ultimately got the unit back moving.

This is not the only job that i have loaded multiple Rounds of line work. This is my typical process and have not had issues in the past. After talking with Adam, he mentioned that it could be a bug and suggested i send the file to support. I will upload it this evening.

Has anyone else had any issues similar to this? I really hope it is a bug that can be fixed easily because this process is one i use quite a bit.

Are the lines you are loading happen to be contour lines? I had an issue where I loaded contours from CAD an it just overloaded the memory, that is what I was told. Also watch that number that counts up when you start the stake or collect action screen. I have found if that number gets much over 6000, it my lock up or be really slow because of the lack of memory.

Could you tell your device serial number to identify your project on our server.

Michael, I am so sorry for the late reply. My serial number is 710. Also, I am starting a new thread on another issue that came up this weekend in J Field. This current problem still exists, however now it is crashing to a boot screen. I will be attach the log file and archive on the separate post. Thanks for your help.

Hi Michael, I am also having problems with my T-LS Plus crashing when I zoom in to the imported dwg line work. It crashes when I am right on top, zoomed in to the linework. I sent my log yesterday, my T-LS PLUS S/N is 00168. In one occasion, the T-LS Plus crashed to a boot screen as Sam's did; however most of the times the screen just locks when I am in the process of zooming in to the line work to select it. Then it reboots by itself to the operating system boot sequence, but it also locks during that process and I have to press the power bottom to turn it off and then power the unit back up again. I ended up removing the dwg linework because I was not able to get it to work with it. I hope this helps you figure out the issue, just more information for you to look at, Thanks for your help!. (By the way, on a different note, we are looking forward to the J-Mate release to the public, hopefully before this coming Christmas)

Did you try the latest J-Field Release 3.0.10.402 ? Do you have crashes when working with your linework or other problems?

Hi Michael, I had taken all the linework out of the project to prevent the LS+ from crashing. I currently have the J-field Release 3.0.10.401, following your message I reloaded all the dwg linework (FYI, I wblocked what I needed to only have linework, no CADD points, nor CADD text in the dwg file and saved it down to dwg version 2000). Everything appears to be working great, the LS+ is no longer crashing when I zoom in on the linework, it is able to select the linework, corners, intersections, etc. It appears to be working great now. I am able to pan through the screen area on a project that has sites spread-out throughout 25 miles, and view and select quickly the linework I just imported. I will upgrade to latest J-Field Release 3.0.10.402 and will let you know what happens. Thank you for taking care of this matter, we appreciate your diligence, work and ability to make things happen!
