GPS on Benchmarks

As a Thanksgiving (maybe early Christmas, or start of new year) gift NGS has extended the deadline for submitting data for inclusion in the GPS on Benchmarks program. I know that I have wanted to add some of my local benchmarks to assure that when the new system is released my JAVAD system will be more consistent and accurate. I also know that I haven't done this for fear of spending a day (or several days) collecting data with wrong settings in my unit, or not properly downloading the information to NGS for processing.

We now have a full year to become a meaningful part of this program. I believe that if we all spent just a few hours in the next year working on this we could change the program from GPS on Benchmarks to JAVAD on Benchmarks.

I am starting this thread in hopes that someone either has, or is willing to produce, some JAVAD instructions on the settings and procedures for setup, profiles and process that will produce the necessary results.

I think that if JAVAD, and JAVAD users would participate in this program, it could grow into a great marketing opportunity, create user pride, a launchpad for publications, and give us something to be thankful for next Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to seeing a "JAVAD on Benchmarks Manual" to help me avoid the fear of doing something new and guide us all.

GPS on Bench Marks Extended:

NGS is officially extending the GPS on Bench Marks Campaign’s cut-off date for one year, until December 31, 2022. We are encouraged to continue to collect and submit GPS data to NGS for use in developing products to be launched with the Modernized National Spatial Reference System. The extension reflects the NGS commitment to include as much data as possible in determining the Reference Epoch Coordinates (REC) that will be used to create the Transformation Tools that will be released with the new NSRS. These will allow users to transform their data between current vertical datums (NGVD29 and NAVD88) and NAPGD2022, the new geopotential datum which is being developed.

At a seminar earlier this year I asked our NE regional coordinator Dan Martin about submitting DPOS solutions. He mentioned multi constellation a 2 hour session would be sufficient. But I don't see a way to submit one as yet. Possibly through DS World using the handheld geocache area with an explanation? I think there would be more participation if we could submit 2 hour sessions rather than 4 hour sessions. Set T2 for 2 hours and done.

I don't see the 4-hour requirement changing due to the vertical accuracy gained by going from 2 to 4 hours.

Does this graph include more than GPS? Looks like the GPS graph. I could be wrong but I thought the time was linked to geometry, which even with one more constellation should require much less time. At any rate, 2 hours rather than 4 was what NGS told me at the webinar, but still don't see a way to submit DPOS instead of OPUS regardless of time requirement.
