I just updated the firmware on my T-2 to the latest version and I am now getting the same error when connecting to the base in the base setup screen. In my case, the start base button is greyed out, so I am unable to start the base and proceed with a survey. Any help would be appreciated.

I like the internal batteries, but as long as there is an option to supplement with a commonly available external power pack, ie 12v battery for base, portable power pack for rover.

This sounds very encouraging. Just as a side note, I don't see this for sale anywhere else other than this thread. I would assume it should be listed under "products", "accessories" on the website. Also, as a T2 user, it would be nice to be notified, perhaps via email, about product upgrades...

John, it's as easy as Adam says. It is a new feature, there are quite a few maps to choose from, I use the satellite imagery.
