The ideas pile

Matt, there are times that I used to (this was with Pac crest / topcon radio) run for 1/2 day on low power, then switch to high power, and drive down the road, and tag another couple of surveys. This was good. It reduced radio impact. It reduced base radio battery consumption. And, let you get far away shots.
It would be good if we could change EXTERNAL base radio settings, without shutting down the base.
It's not super necessary. But, I'd use it if it were available.

A real game changer would be an automated height-of-rod device.
There's A lot of ways to do this.

String down middle of pole. Sensor on string reel. Bluetooth to gps.
Laser light edm on pole. Shoots to reflector, at bottom of pole.
Sensor wheel that rolls, when pole is extended.
In fact, there's a real good market for this, for all brands.
Whoever figures out a trouble free way to do this. Is going to sell a bunch of them!
How would you like a button on the pole, that when pressed, read the rod height, sent it to the LS, and pressed START for you?

The new Leica instruments, have a laser that reads the HI. Very handy.

Height of inst, meaning the total station? That's not rod height too is it? Is it a vertical end?
Once we get automated rod heights, then it's a very small step to being able to place a t-2 Or other on a remote controlled boat, Or a regular boat, and survey bottom profiles of lakes, streams etc. I don't do these very often. But, it is a very real and related item.
I'm very sure that this will become standard. Someday.

Love this thread.
  • Go to the 5/8" thread
  • Keep the screen in the unit, but I want to use my phone (and my watch) to start/stop without cell coverage when shooting overhead
  • I want a simple bluetooth to my laptop (without cell coverage & cloud drives)
  • Wireless charging
  • Simpler cogo functions for subdividing PLSS sections
  • Brighter screen
  • I do like the size and I use a lot of the rubber buttons, but lighter/thinner would be great. Maybe save space with better battery tech?

With so many devices now using voice recognition, I really want this on my LS!

I wanna say "Hey Liri." *ding* "Stakeout to design point C4 and change my rod height to 5 point 8 9 feet."

"Hey Liri." *ding* "What is the horizontal distance between point 1 and point 13?"

"Hey Liri." *ding* "Create a new point midway between points 1 and 13." What should I call it? "C5."

"Hey Liri." *ding* "Start."

I could see many COGO feature and operations ideas here.

"Hey Liri." *ding* "Stake the NE corner of Section 37" .. "You kidding me?"
Voice commands, and mid point are on my wish n want list.
On the prorate list, I want a program called "pro-rate poly".
The way it works is:
Enter 1st end point of polyline_______.
Enter next point of polyline_________.
Enter next point of polyline_________.
(As you enter these points, it displays the overall distance)
Enter next point of polyline_________.
Enter next point of polyline_________.
For as many points as you need.
Then, enter overall record dist________.
Enter Record stations, to create________.
(This last line remains active)
So, if you wanted station:
330
660
990
1320
1960
2640, then it would display a point number opposite those record stations, at the pro-rated distance, along the polyline.
A poly line, is a single entity line, with many segments, or angle points.
Nate
Ps, then be able to save, or recall that polyline, as needed. Names like e side 36 etc.

Is there any reason we can't bump up the size of the Enter Position screen text, to be something like this? I don't know why it has to be so tiny when there's tons of room.

Larger font would be very helpful in the Point screen as well. Select an individual point and see the Large front info N. E. El for just that point.
I need to pull the robot out every now and then and need to enter Coords into my data collector. Its hard to read tiny font when under pressure and Florida sun beating down on you.

I will add the option to Settings menu.

Maybe I'm alone on this opinion, but the items I'd like to see in large print in that lower right blue box are N,E,U, name, code, description.

Or... Long press that box to another screen where you select which items you want to show, and what font size you want.
