T-3

What options would a land surveyor want if he was going to upgrade to a T-3 RTK Base from a Triumph 1-M? I'm thinking of turning the 1-M to a permanent base on the office building.

Thanks for any insights!

WHEN I get my hands on a T-3 to replace my T-1 for out-in-the-wild setups, the main options I'd pick on the order page would include: BeiDou, and UHF+LTE. In my case I'll probably add an external antenna connection, because that's just the kind of fella I am.

All the other standard/default options look pretty dandy. Fairly well-configured for use with an LS/LS+.

Side note: while looking at the T-3 configurations, I'm not mistaken it looks like there's a NEW Rugged Case (16") available too? I'd certainly like to see specs and interior pictures of that, and might just add that to my next order...

Eric,
I don't know if you bought a rugged case yet or not, but the FedEx man just brought me a couple of them today. The inside is filled with foam rubber user-customizable to fit whatever fits inside. The egg crate foam is glued into the lid. The inside has two 2" thick foam pieces that are perforated into half-inch squares with a 1" border all around. There is also a 1/2" thick piece loose in the bottom. I'll probably glue the foam in place once I have it like I want it.
It has a folding handle and two holes for locks. The hinges have a soft catch that holds the lid open against wind and gravity. There is also a threaded knob with an o-ring for a vent.
Inside dimensions without foam are 15" x 10.5" x 6". If you took all the perforated foam pieces out and just left the 1" border, the inside dimensions would be 13" x 8.5" x 4".
Outside dimensions are 17" x 13" x 7" (15" with the handle up).

How is the flex seal holding up??
It started degrade a little and i tried the Kaizen foam Jim mentioned. Much harder to work with. Used a knife, but Dexter i am not and I lacked the skill to make it look perfect. The Kaizen will be much more durable, just need a sharp set of tools and more patience than I have. I also think a bigger case would have been easier to work with allowing more room around cutouts.

I use a narrow utility knife like this to cut Kaizen foam:

The blade is only about 3/8" wide, and I extend it out as far as I need to to cut the foam.

The key with the flex seal is multiple coats. I used it to seal the pluck foam in my Pelican and was impressed to get about 3.5 years out of it.
Did my latest case with Kaisen and it works good too (I did have trouble peeling the "layers" out smoothly)

At Jim's suggestion, I bought this 1-1/8" Kaizen foam. One sheet of 24"x48" is way more than enough for a case. I made almost all of the cuts clear through the foam, giving each layer a different cut pattern, and stacked two 1-1/8" layers so there was very little peeling of the glued layers needed. I was going to cut a third layer, but two layers holds everything securely and three would probably make taking the receivers out and putting them back in more difficult, so I left it at two layers. I'm happy with it so far. FastCap makes some foam that is green and black, but I couldn't find it on Amazon.
