UHF antenna on LS+

Stopped for the day and shut everything down. Went to take the cell antenna and the UHF antenna off. Looked at the UHF antenna port and about a half of inch of wire was sticking out. What have I done wrong. Look at the antenna and there is still some center wire sticking out. We have the Spread Spectrum radio modem. installed but never use but still put the UHF antenna all the time. We cell connection all the time. The antenna is a 868-928 mhz sma.
Two questions that I have and hope someone can help me with. One is did the wire just break in the antenna and pull out of it and luckily not get stuck in the antenna port? Two, can I use the 400-470 mhz sma antenna I have to keep the UHF modem from burning up in case I mistakenly turn on the UHF ( which I have been told is a NO NO using a UHF radio Without a antenna attached) Till I can get another 868-928 mhz antenna?
Anybody with ideas please chime In. Mike

It sounds like the antenna broke. You only have to worry about the radio burning up when it is used in transmitting mode. You aren’t using the LS as a base are you?

We don't use as a base. Use TCP only. Lucky we have good cell coverage. Turns out on closer inspection it was the female end inside the port that pulled out. We reinserted that into the port and put the antenna on. Hopefully in case of mistaken uhf activity it has good enough contact to protect. I guess it would have to be sent back to San Jose to replaced at some point.
Thank you for responding. Mike

I think the point Matt was trying to make is the the LS generally only receives UHF signals because it is a rover and not a base. It gets signals from the base, not the other way around. You can use the LS as a base and have it transmit but that requires a lot of button pushing to make happen. Long story short, the LS won't hurt itself without the UHF antenna on. Glad it all turned out ok for you.
