    Draw Alignment

Hi all, Have not posted in a while, trying to be retired! I am doing some minor staking for an old client on an old job, and can't for the life of me figure out how to get a rather complicated Alignment to show up in the Map. I stake to it, but it doesn't show up in Map. This Alignment was...

    SHIFT not working correctly

Hi Everyone, I have used the Shift function in Collect (not Cogo) many, many times since I discovered it, and it has always worked flawlessly. This week, I had it fail badly. Which is better than failing only slightly, I guess. Pretty obvious it was wrong as the points were over 100 feet...

Alignment not showing up in Shift

Hi All, I created a road alignment in Stake just using "close" coordinates. I plan on locating the controlling monumentation, then Shift/Rotate the alignment to them. When I go into Cogo Shift, however, I don't see the Alignment. Am I missing something here? Bruce

    White boxes gone

I was doing some work today in Stake Line by 2 Points and my white boxes just disappeared. They are there in Collect, just not in Stake. I attached a screen shot: Help! Bruce

    SHIFT lost on some points

Hi all, I was working on a site where I used the SHIFT function on a T2 base position using RTK. Worked fine till near the end of the day. I didn't notice at the time that the SHIFT was no longer on. Ended up collecting about 20 points that were still on the Autonomous position. So how do I...

    Lost Bearings in Inverse

Hi all, I know I will find the answer just as soon as I post this, but for some reason I have lost Bearing display in Cogo Inverse. It's Azimuth now and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the display back to Bearings.... Help. Bruce

    Low-tech rain guard

My granddaughter and I were working in the rain today, and I fashioned a pretty "crude but effective" rain guard for my LS screen. I kept getting drops hitting the screen and flipping things around, or coating it so that my finger or stylus didn't register. Just cut out a hood from some thin...

    Turn off UHF?

Okay, so I had a situation today where I was trying to tie a monument that was on the edge of my radio range. I would get green signal, then it would drop out for a bit, then come back. After a while I switched to a Standalone profile thinking it would be more efficient to just gather post...

    Covid-19 Quarantine for Surveyors?

So right now up here in Washington State, there is a "Stay Home Stay Healthy" order from the governor that prohibits many professions from working. Only those involved in essential jobs are suppose to work. Land Surveying is not one of them. Most of my work is by myself, in areas that have...

    CDF and solution issues

I am beginning to wonder if I have a problem with my LS. Yesterday morning around 10 or so I was working in a relatively open area. A high ridge about half a mile to the west and 2000 feet above me, but lots of open sky to the south, north and east. No real trees. I kept getting "CDF" in the...

    Alignment Verticals

So I am using the Alignment routine to stake a small road and was struggling to get my verticals to work. I defined the horizontal and it all worked great, but I got no usable cut/fill numbers. I had input the vertical data, but it did not show up in Preview, and all I got was a cut to a zero...

    Offset points

Hi everyone, working on some large topo projects in suburbia and finding out an issue I would like to see perhaps addressed. I find I use offset points quite a bit. For example, ties to large coniferous trees work best for me as an offset. I get little to no resolution under those things. So...

    Renumber points?

Hi everyone, So I have a project that had some bad GPS areas (lots of deep, dark conifers which just seem to block ALL my signal) so I decided to drag out and dust off my total station. Took about 10 shots and incorporated them into my CAD drawing. Then I did not return to the site for about...

    Staking Alignments Station/Offset display

So I was out on a site a couple of days ago staking some offsets to an alignment I had created, something I have done many times before. This particular job required setting offsets 112.5' from the center of a small creek. I located the creek, created an alignment, and started the "Alignment...

    200 foot RTK limit

Hello everyone, Today I had a strange day with my gear. I was on a flat site, good sky, no real obstructions. I setup my system normally, base on a known point with radio link broadcasting corrections. All looked good, checked into another monument about 100 feet away, good check. I moved...

    Compass Heading

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the compass heading as it shows in my system. I use the offset point routine quite often, typically for points that are nearby (3-10 feet away) like under a pine tree or for a building corner that I cannot get directly. I shot a powerline tower the...

    Major shift in DPOS processing

Hello everyone, I did a small job yesterday using my standard procedure when working in an area with no nearby control. I setup using an autonomous position with DPOS post processing. I always work in NAD 83/11 Washington North Zone. The position of my base was as follows (N,E,Z): 333337.72...

    Move, Shift of surveyed points?

Hi everyone, I just did a two day topo job where I could not DPOS the points until today. I have two base files (one for each day) but I only downloaded the first day, which is the one I ran through DPOS. Is there a way to shift or move the second day's work onto the corrected positions? I...

    North?

So I have a line that I need to stake with a deed call of "North 500 feet" and also "West 2000 feet". My first inclination is to stake it at True North. I am working in Washington State Plane North (NAD 83). I see that under Cogo,Cogo Tools, Factors I can get the convergence angle from Grid...

    Stakeout Accept Points As

Hi everyone, So I am having difficulty with the "Accept As" option doing a stakeout. I had a topo job yesterday that worked nicely using stakeout to a line for doing a grid on a site. I did the Accept As box and collected shots at each grid location starting with 6000. The points show up as...
