2 LS's 1 Surveyor

I bought a second LS last month in preparation for Galileo when it is ready. I have used it as a base for the old LS and it is a sweet setup that way. This week I decided to use 2 LS rovers instead of the LS base / rover setup. I had my trusty Triumph 2 base sending corrections thru TCP set up and had 1 LS on the monopole in my hand and the second LS in the J-Pack. Off, I went around the boundary. With 2 LS's I was able to leap frog them. The timing was about perfect. By the time I had found the next corner with LS2 and got it set up and collecting and got back to LS1 it had repeated several shots. This worked well on the boundary I was surveying because there were a lot of corners to locate fairly close (100-200') from one another. I was also able to get offsets to the 1st LS with the second one in the tough canopy. This worked very well saving me about half the time.

Adam, I wish I'd of thought of that!
How did you keep track of point names/numbers?
I think it'd be double awesome to have some sort of master software, that ALLOWS this, and combines data, from 2 LS's, performing average between the 2 LS's, (multiple LS's) and such. I'm impressed.
What about a huge survey, 5 LS's, 3 guys, I big master worksheet, (loaded into all LS's), and doing a month of work, in a week?
One of those high dollar, rush jobs? Wow. The potential!
Nate

Edit:
PS

:) I think NONE of us could do what you did, without that GRIN!

We’ve had three LS’s working on a big job all from one base several times. Similar to what Nate described - Three guys, three LS’s, two Kawasaki Mules......but was more like a months worth of work......in ONE DAY!!

We just start the second and third LS’s with something like point 200 and point 300, then merge them all in the office.

The improvement and ability to “create base and DPOS from file” has made this MUCH easier - or we just use VRS to set our base point and run state plane right from the go.....

The Javad equipment is truly revolutionary and it honestly still just amazes me when I see my colleagues out/about using “other” stuff. My first word is always “why?”

I just used a different point range for LS2. There is the option to merge projects. I haven't tried it yet.
Merge projects? Already done? Whoa! What's it do with point number conflicts?
I can see alpha-numeric point names fully solving this. This could allow lots of things. Hmmmm. I wonder. I wonder.

I will report back after trying it Nate. I haven't used it before so not sure how it handoes point conflicts.
I use alphanumeric pnt IDs a lot.

By the way correct for tilts is used on the one at the bldg. It's on a rebar directly under it.

I like that. I use the feature a lot. I have tested so many time I trust it. I used a banro twistlock rod. It's a monoppd with a bipod. I use it when I have to pack a long ways on rural surveys. It don't have a bubble, so I turn tilt sensor on. I like the tilt sensor when I'm staking things within a tenth or so also.

I really like this idea. instead of hiring another guy, buy another LS. Do the work in 50% to 30% faster.

This would also work well when staking under the canopy. Set both LS's up get 2 good solutions. Pull a distance, distance to know exactly where the point is. Setup one more time to check and then you have it. That alone would save 50% to 70% on staking out in the woods.

Awesome Idea Adam

It works very well for offset while the first LS is on the point. I created a thin Spike for stepping the 2LS in the ground. I only have three jpod legs.

i like thi idea. it would work well wth a "woods" set up I use a lot. picket surveying. I carry a couple 4' sections of range poles (always at least one, which doubles as a third leg on uneven mountain terrain) and not unlike the 2 LS 2 tape method I can take a shot or two on line and range into a heavy covered stake or corner. (the spiked end would swap out with a picket for a temp line shot) sometimes only need s single picket then the LS on line and used to use a disto for the go in leg but droped tge dang thing in the woods, go figure, back up is a 100' hook box tape with chaining pin line sighting via plumb bob.

2 LS's would be nice.....but dig this with 1LS I am still out front of the status quo. I can picket range a stake into the bush with an out open shot....the big 3 can't get (next to canopy) then the stake that couldnt get RTK with any unit gets a grade shot using Hybred RTK.....available only at Javad......to be continued...
