Average Cluster of Points.

I'd like a few details about this.
1.) "Use Code and Attributes from First Point" That's fine. But, I'd LIKE to select another nomenclature for Clusters. As it is, it uses AVG_742. It is CASE sensitive. And, it takes alot of typing, in the field, to do this, when you are doing an inverse. So, I'd suggest allowing the USER to SELECT what he uses for AVG_. Maybe he could use just one letter, like a742. This would reduce keystrokes, in the field. Or, he could use av742. Just seems it would be better to be USER selectable.

2.) "Bypass Single Point" What does this mean? When it is checked, it says "Clusters found: 7" When it is Un-checked, it says "Clusters found: 71"
I'd just like a little more information about this. What does that mean?
Thanks!!

I will request formating options be made available for the point names. Bypass single points does not create a new point when only 1 point is found in a cluster.

We should be able to add something similar to the options we have for exporting design points:

you said: "Bypass single points does not create a new point when only 1 point is found in a cluster." Does it create a new point, when bypass is NOT checked?

Yes, I see it being useful if you create the averaged points on a new page. This way that page would contain all the surveyed points and you could then just choose only to export the points on that page.

But, the descriptions are absent.... It fills in the point desc as "Averaged 1348, 1349, 1350" So, I no longer have the POINT DESC on my acad screen. I wish it would NOT modify the point desc. I usually go through my shots, when I shoot a point multiple times, the ones I do not use, are put on a hid layer, called "0Hid" the leading 0 is so that stays near the top of the list of layers. Then, I freeze that layer. So, all I have is my final points. BUT I can go and see the spread of the shots I took. The point desc is "Fd 3/4" pipe, 0.2' s to wood fnc runs E & S"

I'll request an option to "Include the Point Description from the First Point", similar to what we have for Code and Attributes. You haven't tried using Codes and Attributes yet? They are more convenient that having to type a description for each point.

No, I have not yet tried them. I cannot seem to get off the ground. I read the stuff, but there is no shelf in my head to store it. I'd need an idiot's guide to it. Very step by step. I have tried to figure it out. Just not there yet. Maybe you could put that together in another thread?

Implemented both requests (point name with configurable prefix and suffix, and option to include first point description instead of auto-generated description) in the development version (1.11.9).

Grabbing this thread for my question. I believe this has been discussed before.
Apparently the way I have been doing things lately (set base with NYRTN then survey) didn't expose me to this particular issue.
Just to confirm, on a recent survey I averaged some points before I DPOS'ed the base.
So my averaged points (which are Design points) do not get shifted when the base coordinate is changed and applied to the project (surveyed) points.
It appears my workaround is to go back and re-average the points with the new base?
Is there a plan to change or modify this? (at least for surveyed then averaged points)
Thanks.

In the next version of J-Field, averaged points from surveyed coordinates will be created as points with survey coordinates so they should be shifted automatically when the base station coordinate is adjusted.

How much work would it take, to add the option to the Average page "SKIP previously averaged points"?

The reason I ask, is because on some jobs, you want to do your averaging AS YOU GO. And, use these averaged points to perform further calcs in the field.
Otherwise, you wind up Deleting all average points, and redoing the average cluster command, multiple times in the field.

Anything that simplifies, and streamlines, is good, especially when doing calcs in the woods.

Thanks!

I agree that this is a needed feature. MiKhail, I would suggest using the same logic that is used when importing points to check for name conflicts and then present the same Skip, Rename, Overwrite Existing option:

Thanks Matt.
It's a joy to have this level of responsiveness.
I don't always communicate WHY but an abiding theme in my posts, is that ultimately, to be able to use FEWER and FEWER keystrokes, and to come home with FINAL coords made, is a basic goal. It's my "End Goal" in this game.
This also leads to Fewer trips to the field, as in, in one day, we perform preliminary ties, calcs, final coords, and drive home, with the final already solved, and staked.

It also follows the theme of "All crew members, at 100% efficiency, 100% of the time". In this case, we have for a crew:
My brain.
The LS
and
all the rest of my tools. Truck, Chainsaw, ATV, etc.
So, the more effective, and efficient the the cogo is, to make final coords in the field, then the more effective and efficient my cogitations while driving home will be. And, this makes for more things happening at once. My brain is solving, while I am driving.
I like your solution, and improvement to my suggestion. Thanks!!
Happy weekend!

You can already do that. I am not saying not to add a filter type, I just want you to have the power to use the LS better, because there are lots of times to use "your own filter".

Set the filter to only look for points containing "avg".

From the Points screen, press the Magnifying Glass button.

You will then see a subtle change to the area of the screen that moments ago had icons for media. I usually set the brackets as you see below. This will find text anywhere in the name. To enter the desired filter text, tap the light blue field to the left of the brackets and a keyboard will pop up.

Enter your search text.....Press enter...
00269_RegExp_20161122-17.21.44.png

And Voila! Now if you press and hold the delete button, you will only be deleting your average points.

I hope that helps.

It appears that this ability is no longer functioning... I use a point number most of the time, and the AVERAGE point just has an A added to the end of the point name.
So, in the file it looks like this:
7 Fd 1/2" rebar
7A Fd 1/2" rebar
8 Fd 1/2" rebar
9 Fd 1/2" rebar
10 Fd 1/2" rebar
10 C/L
11 C/L
12 Fd 1" Pipe
12A Fd 1" Pipe
13 Fd 1" Pipe
14 Fd 1" Pipe

I want to select JUST the POINTS that are averaged. That would be *A
or, Wildcard A. Points 7A, and 12A above are how it displays the AVERAGE points.
so, I have tried all I can remember, and cannot get it to only show the AVERAGE points.
I want to delete them, and remake them.
Either I have forgotten an important detail, or there is a malfunction in the program.
Thank you,

Nate
