Awesome shot with LS

I located a corner in canopy and at the foot of a mountain. The LS has proved itself to me in these places where I wouldnt try to use my other receivers. Even in places where the LS struggles a bit to get going, you can get good data. I was at this point about 5 minutes total.

Interesting. I love the way those screen captures are stored. Notice that the screen shot marked "Failed, groups = 4..." has coordinates at the bottom. The reason this attempt failed was that you had your maximum group setting at 3. All of this is fine, but notice that one group had nine fixes in agreement with one another. This group is in brackets. The coordinates at the bottom of the screen represent the average of the bracketed group. Notice that these coordinates are extremely close to the position you ultimately ended up with.

That's a great example of what the LS is capable of in some pretty adverse environments. It's also a strong reminder to use verification and validation tools to recognize and neutralize bad fixes from affecting your points.

Really awesome, A lot of the time I am out in the field with the LS, I have Tim (my employee) shoot some of same points that I collect with the LS. I will be posting more of these from time to time and would like to others Awesome shots too. Shawn I think saving the screen shots, point info, and the ability to print out a report is really a nice feature. I am a little confused about the graphs, are these explained in detail somewhere?

Adam,

Surveying takes us to some great places. I would say getting to survey in Pisgah is pretty sweet. You are a lucky dude.

They also make some pretty darn good beer.

Shawn, in the bracketed group above, the failed group, there are numbers, in brackets. 9, 268, 8. What do those numbers mean? I take it that the 9 means there are 9 fixed solutions there. But what of 268, and 8?
Thanks.

9 fixed solutions, in this group.
268 seconds. (is this the total time, spent in this group?)
8 confidence counter, has run up to 8.

I've been running mine at 10 groups. Sometimes, I have gotten up to 4 or 5 groups, decided to cancel, and raise the rod, and start over. Now I can analyze this better.
Thanks.

Thats how long it took until it failed and restarted, after the restart I got a good position in about 5 minutes on that point. I had coordinates on it to compare and it was within .08'. If you notice on the screen shot my confidence was set to 20 and it never reached it before failing.
