Yes the new Prerelease has fixed the background maps issue. Thanks for the replay Gregory. I am going to test the new prerelease tomorrow myself. Thanks

Just came across this while preparing for job out in the wilderness off some trails. Feel like I found a gold nugget. Nice!

I was able to get a background map downloaded while I was connected to wifi in my office. I don't ususally connect to the internet in the field as I often don't have cell service. When I complete this project and archive it off the LS+, does this specific map stay on the LS in memory somewhere? or does it go with the project archive? If it stays onboard, is there some way to find it and delete it?

Background maps are not stored in project achieves.

If you look at the Background Maps file explorer screen you can see the location and size of the background map on the device. There is also the possibility to delete the map here.

If you click the edit button there is also the option to clear the cached tiles for that background map.

Trying to change my background map for a job in the wilderness this week. The LS+ completely freezes up and I have to turn it off and restart. The 'reading background maps' message comes up and then eventually the screen times out and nothing will bring it back up. Anyone else having a similar issue?

LS+ running 3.0.10.414

I would try clearing the tiles and see if that resolves it.

It would also probably be helpful for us if you put the unit on RAMS so we could find the reason it hangs before you clear the map tiles.

Having just received my LS+ and using the background map for the first time, all kinds of possibilities are opening up. I move my 5000, 5000 search points to a reasonable approximation before taking the first shot.

My new Wish List item is for the background maps to integrate property lines as are available in hunting and real estate apps. Sometimes they are close and sometimes not but it would be very helpful in so many situations.

We had a lengthy discussion at Shawn's class and maybe some of the other attendees will chime in also. LandGlide makes an app for a phone that has parcel data, if I remember, someone said it may be about $10 a month to use. Landgrid is another pay to play website. Acrevalue is free. OnX is a hunting app that also shows property lines.

As surveyors of course we realize that it is only GIS grade parcel lines but most of the time in my area it is pretty darn close and it would be so helpful to just look at the screen and walk to the corner. It would get us close enough to get busy with a metal detector (hopefully the J-tip) and a shovel.

Maybe a mechanism to integrate with one of these GIS apps, such as through WiFi, or the like. So that it’s like having the app in the LS?

A web feature service or web map service would be nice. North Carolina has NCONEMAP which has parcel data for the whole state and is free. Other states probably have something similar. It would be nice to have the option to download it when you don't have cell service.

I use NCONEMAP. Download the parcel data by county as a shapefile. I import the shapefile into my office software and then save it as a dwg. For each project I open up the county drawing and copy the lines in the area I will be working and export those a dwg for the LS. It works great but it is a lot of steps to get it in there.
