Backup storage

Can an external USB portable drive be connected to the LS for backup instead of a USB stick? May seem like a silly question but I would like to download directly to dedicated 1TB solid state portable USB unit. I believe the portable drive is Plug n Play that has installation software, so would the LS recognize the new drive? Thank you Mike

Okay. I think I answered my own question. I tried a new portable drive. It recognized it as backup device proceeded to backup, but said it had errors. Dismounted and connected to PC. File explorer showed no backup files and only the installation files for the device. Plan B: Put my regular USB stick in. Went to full backup and restore. Backup to USB device greyed out (N/A) showing. Went to Export and the USB stick shows up and displays the files in it. Don't understand why the stick show up in the Export procedure and doesn't show up in the Backup and restore. I hope trying the portable device backup didn't screw something up. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Mike

This appears to be a formatting problem? not sure if you can format the drive with the L.S.
Is the drive FAT32 file system?

Thanks for replying. I see what you are saying about the portable drive I tried. That makes sense. I can use the portable drive to store the file from the PC if I can get that file into the PC. I don't understand why the USB stick doesn't show up in the Backup and Restore but does in the Import/Export process. The only option it gives is to write to a Micro sd card.

I have checked with my hard drive and it seems it is not enough power supply to support it.

Is the button "Backup to USB Stick" grey-out in your case?
What type of file system and what size is your USB stick?

May consider using Dropbox or Google drive?

The USB stick I was trying to backup to was a FAT32 and it was greyed out. Went and got a new USB stick and it is backing to the new stick. Will let you know if it goes all to the way to completion. Thank you for the help Michael.

Backup to new USB seems to have been successful. I have copied to portable hard drive and PC. Thanks again Michael and Sean Joyce.
