Base/Rover Setup Video

It's a little rough around the edges as this was my first attempt. This video covers Base/Rover Setup from creating a rover profile, through all of the setup, up to the "Receiving" notification in base/rover setup and show a fixed solution at the rover. The next video will cover Stop and Download through VB-RTK/DPOS.

One thing I realized I neglected to mention. Base/Rover setup mandatorily causes the base receiver to store a raw data file. This is a good, because there are 2GB of storage in the Triumph-2, so there should be no concerns over memory. And if you don't want the file, it is easy to delete. If you do want the file, and forget to hit the record button, you can't get it back! So it's a good exercise. Currently, I select 30 second interval so that the file will be small (in other words, faster download and upload to DPOS/OPUS), and 30 seconds is fine for processing in DPOS or OPUS.

Correct. Every time you use base rover setup and press start base it causes the base to record a raw data file. Your only option is to set the interval.

Worth noting is that even with Record Data on the rover unchecked, you still have access to the g-file export. In other words, you don't need to record data at the rover in order to have adjustable vector data at the conclusion of the field work.

Another thought occurred to me as I was watching the video: when picking a base coordinate, the current options are From List, Enter, and From Auto. I wonder it would be worth adding a Nearest option as well, one that would query the current job point list and see if there are any points within the 10-meter "too far" limit that might be suitable for base occupation.

P.S. Nice job on the video. For a first effort, it's very usable and informative.

Thank you Jim. Regarding nearest, we've discussed that but I don't think we've gotten very serious about it. There are a couple of places in the software that a nearest to feature would be helpful.

Way to go Shawn! Excellent work!! I'm very happy to see you do this and hope that we see more from you in the future.

A couple of points for you to consider:
Pay the $15 to get the screencast-o-matic out of the picture. It's well worth it and you then have many more options for production and post-production, good for a whole year.
Get a good mic and watch your record volume levels. I had to turn my speakers up to 75% in order to comfortably listen to your narrative. The screencast-o-matic volume setting takes a little getting used to.

I actually have a pretty good Mic. It's just too sensitive. It was picking up every time I swallowed or breathed. So I moved it further from my mouth. I need to find out the right balance or some means of setting the sensitivity.

I'm not sure which video software I want to use. I promise that it's not because I'm that cheap. Lol. I've been using the freebie for making informal videos for a while. I hope by the next video I have some of these quality issues worked out.

Those are very helpful suggestions. Thank you.

Nice job Shawn! You also did an excellent job on your write up for Am surveyor! On another note I really appreciate the chance to work with advancing technology and look forward to learning much more from your team and Javad company! This is the only survey forum that I have not seen or received the BLM bashing as other sites allow! I live to survey and am always willing to talk surveying(not policy) but on a professional level! Thank you again!

This is the only survey forum that I have not seen or received the BLM bashing as other sites allow!
I'm in Texas, so the recent discussions regarding the BLM are only of casual interest. Regardless. The purpose of this message board is to:
  • improve user's knowledge and understanding of Javad receivers and software, in particular, and precision GNSS surveying in general. As participants, we all contribute to this goal.
  • improve the Javad equipment from direct user input.
Discussing politics (even as it relates to surveying) is outside the scope of this website.

Thank you for your comments, Monte, and for your write up on your personal experience with the equipment. Like you, I live to survey and enjoyed reading about your finds.

I am, but more decades ago than I want to admit I briefly flirted with a pipe. Sure used up a lot of matches ;)

This got me up and going in 10 minutes. I did have a problem with the LS not wanting to connect to the triumph-2. I had to restart the units twice. Anyone have any clues as to why this might happen?

There have been a couple of people that have mentioned having a hard time with the bluetooth connection maybe 40% of the time, but it seems to be random. I have not had any issues at all with the Bluetooth on my LS or T2.
