Base site selection

I'm kind of picky about where I put my base. I want good sky view. And, up on a hill. It also turns out to put me into interesting places, and beautiful picturesque places. The camera does not do justice to this place. The fresh air, sunshine, and cactus.

Finding the right spot can be difficult at times. Especially if there is not a great spot on the property you are working on.

That ridge your on looks to be an awesome place for the base setup.

Another thing, is I typically, bury a log home spike, 2-4" deep, under the base. I can stake these with the LS, later, and that gets me within a few feet. Another habit I have, is to set a new xtra base site, for my use, on each visit to the job. It works.
The cooler is mine... My radio wires go in it. The other box is a hard box for the LS, and t2.

Yes, it's a type of cactus. It makes red cactus apples. It grows well, in rocky soil, that drains well.
I shoulda got a pic of it.

I bet you get unbelievable base radio coverage up there. What is the purpose of the blue sections on your rover pole? Seems like a lot of extra connectors and/or adapters above the basic pole top.

How tight is that quick release? I've been using the Leica-style and fine that it has more play than I'd like. It's probably less than a millimeter, but annoying nonetheless.
