Basis questions, Radios, and Repeaters, and Triumph 1M

I plan to buy a T-1M.
I have a 35 watt Radio.
I plan to set the T-1M, as my base, and convert my radio to be a repeater.

This would allow me a faster set up time, as the base is only one unit, with integrated radio.
And, when longer range is needed, then set up radio.

Now, my questions. Can I run the 35 watt radio, with a smaller antenna, (like a rubber ducky), so long as I only run it at maybe 4 watts, or 10 watts?
I imagine I could make a little Nickle Metal Hydride pack, for it, so that I could set it up, and plug in the power, and my little repeater is in business?

Is it ready for repeat mode?

I'd just like to be kept in the loop, of these things.

Thank you,

Nate

Nate,
I was thinking the same as you on the repeater project. I had decided against it as you lost a bunch of performance, as the radio had to act as both a receiver and a transmitter. I remember thinking that it would be great if the radios had a port to add a receiver antenna too so that the performance was not degraded. Not sure if this is all still true or not, but you may want to double check.

That said, I have only used my 35w a few times since I got it. The performance on the internal T1M has been so good, combined with my new use of network RTK, I haven't had alot of need for it (which is a good thing).

My corollary question is:
Is any other user out there using a t2 as a cors opus dpos base?
Assuming I have a suitable location, whats involved?
Monthly expense?
How much internet band with, or speed reduction would i see? Or, does it want or need it's own internet connection?
Thanks.

There should not be any performance downgrade with the lastest radio firmware if you upgrade the firmware and find that there still is let us know.

I did not notice any as I did not attempt it. This is what Mike told me before I purchased a couple years ago, and I don't really recall all of the details, but could have been related to beast mode.

Now that you mention it, it has been a year or so since the firmware in my T-1Ms have been updated. It may be time.

Same thing occurred to me. Can the T2 be used solo (that is, w/o the radio and base) and instead receive local or state CORS signals? I have a Leica unit that works this way and is not quite as accurate as the JAVAD, but it's not bad (usually yields horiz of about 0.1 to 0.12').

Can the JAVAD be set up similarly, or is it driven by the base/radio combo? Thanks--

Both can be used solo.
The t-2 will run static sessions, with your smart phone, and a javad app.
My a friend of mine does just that, for elevation certificates.
The LS will do the same.
Another friend said he did a job, but forgot a shot. He went back, with the LS, did a 15 min solo dpos. (cors sites were close, and some even run 15" rate, and a few run 1" intervals).
So, without a base, he got his shot.
I'm a fan of this system.

It sounds like you're talking about RTN corrections via IP (e.g. the California Real Time Network). The answer is yes, as long as your LS has a way to connect to the Internet. You can do that with an internal SIM card from a wireless provider, or by a WiFi connection to an external device. I do the latter, using either my phone or a Jetpack (Verizon-speak for a portable WiFi access point).

Is there any step-by-step instruction on how to circumvent the base/radio and use a CORS network? We have a fairly robust CORS throughout Massachusetts and I think it worthwhile to test it against the T2. From the brief explanation that's in the JAVAD LS USer's Guide (p. 25), looks like I'd need a SIM card and a machine-to-machine connection. Anybody here who's compared the two systems (CORS vs. base/radio config)?
