Bluetooth any Smartphone to the LS

I think you should be able to control the LS via Bluetooth from any smartphone. I use Android. I work in many areas where I don't have cell service. This feature would be nice when the LS is way above my head where the satellite's are more viable.

You can do this now. There is an app. RAMS. Download from google playstore. Cost is some 20 or 30 bucks.
It does use battery life faster. (on the phone).
Most of us just set up a lift profile.
Flashlight blink.
10" delay, before observation begins.
There are usually many things in this box, that we have, that we have not yet discovered.

Yes it is possible now but you need to have a mobile router with you. In Linux WiFi Access Point functionality is being developed so a router will not be needed at that point.

I work in areas where there is NO cell phone reception, so a mobile router or any type of wifi would not work. That is why I suggest you should be able to control the LS via Bluetooth or another controler even. Just something that works even when you have no cell phone reception. Is this even possible?

When my android phone looses 4G it drops the hotspot connection, and the LS and the android phone will not talk. Adding a mobile router means we have to carry more equipment, which really isn't desirable. A Bluetooth connections seems like it would be a lot more reliable in areas without cell service.

It would also be nice to transfer data via bluetooth. All you guys know all about forgetting cables, usb flash drive, ...ect. I LOVE typing in coordinates manually. Everyone forgets things every now and then and sometimes things break and quit working. My experience using bluetooth in a land surveying environment for the last 12 years is it works and almost never stops working.
