On the topic of UHF and My Ideal Surveying Receiver, I really liked that the LS had all internal antennas (GSM and UHF) and it seems like the LS+ and T3 have taken a step backward in requiring external antennas. I understand this is due to unforeseen space limitations inside, but if you're back to the drawing board, it would be nice to have them back inside.
While I like having the option of an internal UHF antenna, there are times when an external UHF antenna is needed. I think the external UHF antenna connector should be BNC or TNC. From a user's perspective, SMA connectors have a lot of downsides. With the exception of this antenna (which has pretty limited performance), just about any antenna or cable I connect to that port is going to need an adapter to BNC or TNC. SMA connectors require tools to torque them properly, and if they are properly torqued, they require tools to remove them. They can be damaged by over-torqueing them. When the antenna gets bumped the SMA connector loosens and needs tightened. Connecting or disconnecting them with cold fingers is a pain. I made myself a 5/16" wrench from a fender washer using a file and a hacksaw. I can easily carry it in my pocket, but it goes missing when I need it sometimes and it would be nice to not need it at all.
