Color by Code

Folk's the ability to assign a color to each code "layer" is wonderful.

It makes the map so much more intuitive. I bet a crisp $20 that most surveyors can relate to whats drawn and find the creek, the sewer easement, the building, back curb, edge of asphalt, whatever now very easily. I bet most of you guys can pick out the layers (features) just by looking at the map. With no text as well. Take a look below. This is a subdivision of a Kidney dialysis plant and an asbuilt I did a little while ago. I just imported the drawing after setting up the color for each of my codes. I'm very happy about this improvement.

Eugene, I'm not much of a user of the Triumph LS, my brother uses his exclusively. I don't you my Victor LS much, I'm mostly in the office and I haven't tried using any background maps yet.

In AutoCAD world, I use a grey background and the colors I use are based on the ACI numbers. I'm mostly red-green color blind. Can't see red flagging in the woods unless it's flapping by the wind. Stoplights red on top looks brown to me, I can see yellow, green looks to be a shade of grey. Grey background with black and other colors should work. I can see blue good ACI #5 and it looks good to me on the background. Maybe this will help ? There should be some kind of chart for color blindness, I believe I've seen one before.

Right, I am aware of that charts, this is why you can notice that all doors in supermarkets made of glass have yellow spot marks to indicate danger. Blue a little less probability to recognize than yellow. That is why yellow is selected. Just not a big pallet, but we certainly must count this and probably use special color profile.
Thanks for comment!

Dear Mitchell,
Please could you send us the examples of KML files, that you want to import into LS. The main question is geodetic reference frame of point coordinates. The default one is WGS84/EGM96. For accurate import we have to know exact coordinate system, vertical datum and epoch. So we have to provide custom coordinste system selection during import.
Best regards, Vladimir

Is there a way to change the background color to something other than baby blue? It would allow more flexibility in readability of page colors.

Also, might I suggest - a way to automatically assign a page to a point based on code. For example, if I have a bunch of check shots with code "CK", it automatically places those on a predefined page, unless I override it later.

Any kmz or kml created by google earth.;) I would attach an example but the file extension isn't allowed on the forum
Hi Mitchell,
Therefore we have low accurate points for seraching or similar tasks. So you do not use KML format for geodesy tasks. It is simplify our task. I looked through internet and found some lists of reference points in KML. Most of them has no height at all.
Do you want import just points or also polygons and so on?
Best Regards,
Vladimir

Ok I zipped a kmz file I created. Simple line I saved from google earth.
