Connection fail with Javad Mobile Tools and NetView

Hi wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. I have been successfully using the JMT app for several months. I updated to the newest version and I am now unable to connect. To be clear I can see the wifi network and successfully connect to that with my iphone (ios 10.3.3) but the app trys and then shows 'Connection Failed".

I was able to connect using NetView. However in an attempt to fix the problem with JMT I updated the firmware and OAF and cleared NVRAM on my device (as adviced by Javad). Now I am unable even to connect with NetView. I have also tried to connect with a different iphone (also ios 10.3.3) with NetView and JMT and the situation is the same.

I am in conversation with help through Javad and they have been very responsive. However I still don't have the problem solved and wondering if others are experiencing similar issues? Maybe others have solved a similar problem?

Thanks for any replies!

Let me repeat the screens from built-in information. Check your receiver settings with these screens:

Hi Yuri,
I have done a reload of firmware, OAF update and NVRAM clear and reset to try to head off other possible problems. I can copy the settings you have provided except the following 2 exceptions.

1) on the SERVER tab my FTP port and timeout is blank and I cannot enter the respective values yours has (21 and 600).

2) on the TCP tab my last entry "TCP client B" all fields are blank. I cannot click on or fill these fields in to match yours.

Does this suggest a particular problem? Can you tell me how I can get access to fill in those blanks?

I will reiterate my device was working beautifully until the most recent app update. Then after updating the firmware in an attempt to get the use of the app again I can no longer access my device through JMT or NetView. I did not make any other settings changes.

Hi

Any luck on your end?
Got it. Try these steps:
1 - in your iOS app and on your T2 through Netview, set IP address, MAC address, and port to match exactly what's shown in the attached images above.
2 - this was the key for me: in iOS, leave your login blank, but put "1234" in the password space
Good luck.

You do not need to worry about FTP settings as the connection is through TCP. Also you don't need to worry about "TCP client b", only "TCP Client a" needs configured.

Solved!

In short it appears that IOS wanted the subnet mask to specifically be '255.255.0.0' whereas the Javad default is '255.255.255.0'. Big thank you to Michael Glutting, Yuri Noyanov and John Evers for taking the time out to help me solve this problem. Very impressed with the ability to access support and the efforts of all involved.

The problem and steps taken are posted below in case this is useful to others:

Initial problem: Actively using a Triumph 2 for several months controlling via Javad Mobile Tools (JMT) on an iphone (iphone #1- ios 10.3.3). Uploaded JMT app to new iphone (iphone #2- ios 10.3.3) to use with Triumph 2, unable to establish a connection with JMT even after basic troubleshooting efforts (ios resets, re-entering parameters, double-checking parameters etc.). Uploaded NetBrowser for ios to iphone #2 and was able to connect and control the Triumph 2 using that app. Completed field work using JMT on iphone #1 and NetBrowser on iphone #2.

Troubleshooting:

Step #1: updated Triumph 2 firmware, cleared NVRAM and reset (also updated OAF file after below result with no change)
Result: now completely unable to connect to Triumph 2 through either JMT or NetBrowser on either iphone #1 or #2. Able to view wifi signal and apparently connect with iphone although there is a yellow warning exclamation point through the wifi signal. Note: the iphone always warns when connecting to the Javad wifi about a lack of internet connection and provides a security recommendation (open network using 802.11b- not an issue in this case).

Step #2: updated JMT app to latest version and installed NetBrowser on iphone #1
Result: no change- still no connectivity

Step #3: Changed parameter settings via desktop NetView and Modem (matched to those provided above by Yuri)- The only parameter change: WLAN ap mode to 'wpa' from what for me was the default 'wep'. Attempted iphone connection via DHCP (rather than static as described in the Triumph 2 QuickStart Guide).
Result: still no connectivity, iphone appears to connect but qualifies connection with a yellow warning exclamation point through the wifi signal symbol. If I do not manually enter the ip address the iphone fills it in as: '169.254.164.9', the subnet mask is filled in as '255.255.0.0' (note distinct from the Javad default subnet mask parameter of 255.255.255.0 or from Yuri's parameters 255.255.255.192). Networking novice, but the 169.... IP address indicates a failure of the iphone to obtain a valid IP address.

Step #4: Via desktop NetView and Modem WLAN tab changed the network mask parameter to match the one the iphone seems to be expecting: '255.255.0.0'. Switched to static mode by changing, on WLAN tab, "Switch DHCP server on/off" to "off". On the iphone wifi network setting under the 'Static' tab manually entered the 'IP Address' as '192.168.0.2', the 'Subnet Mask' as '255.255.0.0' and the 'Router' as '192.168.0.1'. Lastly and likely incidental, but included here just in case, on the WLAN page, entered 'WLAN WPA Passphrase' as '12345678'.
Result: The iphone wifi symbol shows as complete (not bisected by the yellow warning exclamation point as before although the same security warning still appears on the signal's info page). Connection to both JMT and NetBrowser is successful!

Note: On the NetView and Modem WLAN tab turned "Switch DHCP server on/off" back to "on" and able to connect successfully with the iphone automatically filling in the correct information under it's DHCP tab.

Screenshots of relevant pages showing the working solution from NetView and Modem and ios are attached. Thanks to all!

Update: Still a little bit glitchy...
I can connect to some ios devices via either DHCP or Static, others will only connect using Static mode. I can connect to JMT on my iphone however I cannot connect to JMT on any other devices although I can connect using NetBrowser on any of the 3 ios devices. Although I have previously had my Triumph connected to other ios devices I realize now that those other devices were all using NetBrowser. To my knowledge my particular Triumph has never been connected to another ios device via JMT. While I do currently have a working solution I'd like to solve this problem as I would prefer to continue using JMT and not be forced into only NetBrowser.

Has anyone out there successfully used a Triumph via JMT on more than one ios device? Or android?

Hi Jcorax,

We've been using JMT with 2 x Triumph 1's on numerous android devices connecting via bluetooth, and everything has worked seamlessly since day one. Recently a workmate changed his phone to an apple and has not been able to connect to the T1's with bluetooth, so I tried everything on this thread and cannot connect via WiFi. Hopefully this issue can be resolved soon.

Cheers,
Dan

I am only to connect through my iPhone 6 when I tried just now. I also have an 12.9-Inch iPad Pro (ML0F2LL/A) and iPad Air 2 (MGKL2LL/A) that will connect to the adhoc WLAN of my Triumph-2 but I cannot get either of these devices running iOS 11 to connect to the JMT app.

@Yuri Noyanov have you tested connecting through iPads?

Note that the latest version of Netview & Modem (1.2.1.5) has an option to automatically configure the receiver for connections to iOS devices. These are the settings I used.

Hi Dan,
Sorry you are having trouble as well. You may have already discovered this- we ran into the same confusion with a group of workers mixed between android and ios devices. Turns out the Triumph is designed to connect to Android over bluetooth and ios over wifi (bluetooth is not supported with ios). Not really clear with the initial instructions but it is stated here in the forums in a few places.

I am downloading the new NetView and Modem which has an option for an automatic setup for the connectivity. I am about to give that a try to see if it solves the remaining issues I am having. Might be worth a try on your end.

Best of luck and please respond if you reach a solution.

Just a quick clarification:
I am not trying to connect to multiple ios devices simultaneously. I have a backup ios device and there different individuals operating the Triumph at separate times from their personal iphones. I would like to be able to always control the device with JMT including if needed with my backup ios device if needed. Currently I can only connect to JMT with one of the iphones.

Are you able to connect the iPhone to the WiFi network and just can’t get the app to connect?

Hi Matt, I'm in the field at the moment, but I believe it was connecting to the WiFi (the IP address and DNS looked to be assigned okay in the WiFi access point settings in the phone), but the app does not connect.

After applying the settings, what does your iPhone show in WiFi settings of the connection (then you press icon with blue i inside circle)?
Could you also install any ping/telnet application into iPhone and check does the Router IP is accessible?

Hi Yuri, I did this with my iPad that I cannot get to connect. See the screenshots.

I suspect it could be a problem with the app not trying to connect with the correct password. I used the default password of "1234". If there is a way I can give you access to iPad for investigation let me know.
