Cool find with LS and T2

Here are a few pictures of a corner recovered last week. It was originally set in 1871, set wood post and mkd. a 10 in. burr oak and a 12 in. burr oak. No intervening records, straight woods and no sign of dozers! A small piece of a letter was found in a mostly decayed approx 2 ft. diam. oak stump for one BT and at the other BT position only a 3 ft mound with lateral root holes remain.
here is the piece of letter; 0609151228a.jpg and here is the LS setup on that stump; 0609151231.jpg

here is the T2 setup on the mound collecting raw data for submission to DPOSNEBT1.jpg

I used the LS as a RTN/VRS rover and collected data on both stumps-a RTK position and also recorded the raw data for submission to DPOS as a check. I used JMT and the T2 to collect raw data on the mound while using the LS to observe the stump, notice the rigged bipod, when on RTN/VRS I always bring the pole that came with the set and the T2 as a spare unit for static or RTN/VRS using JMT.

The data was very impressive for the conditions, the LS static positions were with in about .07 to .09 ft. of the RTN/VRS solution and the T2 position is with in .15 ft. of the RTN/VRS position. I chained between the 2 observed points(42.60 ft.) and the chained dist is .02 ft. different than the inverse of the RTN/VRS solutions(42.62 ft.). I can take that especially on a stump and a mound!!!

That's really awesome Monte. Love the recovery of the old stump! The agreement between the RTN and two static observations would have me feeling pretty confident in your numbers, not to mention the chained distance. I like your attention to redundancy. GNSS can save us A LOT of time compared to older methods of surveying. It's wise, in my opinion, to reinvest some of that time saved into the kind of checks you performed.

Monte! That's the holy grail of land surveying! I have several virgin finds! Awesome! I love the idea of using the mono-pod, and the sticks and flagging to prop it up, so you don't have to carry a bipod! He he he I use flagging for everything. Tying wires under my dash, tying up a leak in my finger, or leg. Handy stuff! One time, I visited a corner, found an original, and stuck a handful of nails in there, with witness trees. So I would not have to carry anything heavy! Great find! Is that the LS battery, powering your cell phone?

The LS will charge my mifi.

Late answer but yes you can charge usb devices as long as jfield is running. I love my flagging too, it's a surveyor' s duct tape!! I have also repaired equipment and myself with it, glad to know I'm not the only one! Welcome to the cutting edge of GNSS technology!
