Copying settings from one LS to another.....

I received one of our LS's back today from having some repairs done. We had ripped off the cover over the USB port on the right side of the unit and it had to be sent back to California to repair that.

I guess during the repair process the board had to be removed because when I turned it back on everything we had set up on it is gone! All the profiles, all the codes, all the white boxes......everything.

I didn't expect the unit to come back this way as this is literally hours of settings I have to go back through and set up again.

First question is, why did all of my settings have to get reset just to replace a cover over the USB port?
Couldn't there been a way to copy or retain these settings?

Second question is, is there any way to copy any of my settings from one LS to another (I do know how to copy the codes but that's it).

I think the USB covers on each side of the LS will be a fairly normal problem for a lot of users and may need to be replaced so I'm posting this partly to let everyone know.....when you send it off for this cover to be replaced, be prepared to lose all of your settings you have so carefully set up to your liking.

I have never tried it but the settings files are stored as shown here when a full backup is performed. The action profiles are in the Collect folder. You may be able to copy them over.

Awesome...thank you....definitely worth a try before I start in on re doing everything....
Maybe it would be a helpful idea for the guys at San Jose to do this so as to return our unit as it was??
Hard drives on desktop computers are easily mirrored and copied over to new ones now when they're changed.

Addition.....this got me thinking....maybe I can do a full backup off one LS and then "restore" that backup on the LS that's been reset????

Ok....I realize now that I did make a "full backup" of the LS I sent off that would've taken care of this....that's the good news.....bad news is, the computer I put that on crashed two weeks ago with no retrievable data off of it....it's been a rough, busy, hectic few weeks.....whew..o_O

Anyway, I made a full backup off one of my other LS's but it only let me restore codes, tags and favorites, so I had to set back up some of it..

I believe if I hadn't lost my full backup file I'd been able to get the LS right back where it was when I shippped...

You can in fact copy profiles manually like Adam suggested. You can also restore profiles from a full backup created from another unit. To do this: Files > Full Backup and Restore > Restore from Existing Backup > choose the Profiles option > Restore

The "Settings" are only allowed to be restored to the unit that created the backup.

Thanks Matt, I got to that part and did tags and codes and profiles separately and got those into the other unit. That helped tremendously. Other stuff didn't take too long.
I basically had a brain fart forgetting I'd made a full backup before I shipped...then unfortunately remembered my computer crash......anyway I think all is well now....

Is there a cheatsheet anywhere for replicating a receiver setup? My LS is getting RMA'd to diagnose a possible file system problem, and I'm to be getting a replacement unit (in "used-excellent" condition, I'm told). I don't want to start from scratch, so is there anything I should do in addition to the items discussed above? A step-by-step guide would probably be appreciated by others in the future (and by me now!).

You can restore Tags and Codes, Profiles, C.S. Favorites, All Projects (or One Project Only) from a full backup to a different unit as I posted above. Right now you will have to restore these each one at a time as there isn't an option to Restore multiple items.

What items fall into the Settings category that have to be re-entered by hand? All the Verify and Validate, stakeout, station format, export formats, etc.? Or are some of those included in Profiles and Projects?

The Collect and Stake settings are all part of the Action Group profiles so they will transfer. Things like the Receiver Details (from the system menu), cloud drives and saved WiFi networks won't transfer.

It looks like that can't happen soon enough, as today I collected a point, then tried to send it to my T2 after swapping receivers, but I got a "can't read database" error. The LS lists the point, but without any position numbers. I also noticed that when I tried to create the project this morning, it wouldn't let me change the coordinate system. Something is unhappy in my receiver. :(

All's well that ends well, but...

Michael arranged for an advanced replacement for my Triumph-LS. It was shipped FedEx, and was *supposed* to have been delivered to my local FedEx Office store for pickup. But when I arrived back to my home office today, sitting on the porch for I don't know how many hours was the box from Javad, which could have been taken by any passersby and I'd never have known about it. I'm kind of stunned that something that valuable was shipped without a signature requirement.

There was recently a change in the personal in the shipping department, maybe this is why. I agree a signature should have been required.

If you have never signed up for FedEx delivery alerts at https://www.fedex.com/us/delivery/ I would recommend this. After signing up you will receive email alerts about any package shipped via FedEx to your address and also be able to schedule when packages are delivered.

I'm signed up for text alerts, but I usually get them several times a week and they don't identify the originator. Most of them are for low-cost items that I don't mind leaving on the porch all day. I was in the field with my hands full when I got the FedEx text in the morning; I didn't know when to expect the Javad shipment, so I didn't explore the link.
