Does it matter how you shift??

If I arrive on a jobsite and set my base up autonomously...
I typically come to grid by shifting to a known control point that is near the base and do my work.

Would it be better to shift the base using a far point? Does it matter?
The principle on peg leveling came to mind and I know wonder can you increase any error the farther you get away.

A shift just translates so I don't think it matters. You will have a little bit of error from rtk whether u are right there or far away. When my base is locked to the truck I usually just set a nail close and convenient.

One consideration is whether or not your deliverables are based upon a ground solution if you tend to work on grid. Then the closer the ground point you might want to hold is to your current project the less impact the scale factor will have on your final results.

I think shift, (the one found by pressing gear hardware button twice) is broken.
Either that, or I need to re install.
The other shift, (the one found below START on collect screen) works though.

If you plan on using RTPK I would not use the shift function. I would set a name with VRS and then set the base on that point. I would then do the survey utilizing RTPK and RTK. Once done go back to the base and download the base. I would then DPOS the base point.
