DPOS Page Stalls

Gentlemen,

When I select the DPOS page on the LS there is now significant delay before the system responds. Typically 30 seconds to several minutes, typically followed by an error that the app finished unexpectedly.

When I click ok, the page becomes partially responsible. I can select a base name however; the system stalls again and locks up.

Any thoughts on how to resolve?

If you are watching youtube videos, then it has to share bandwidth. Reduce any other activity, (check and see if daughter or other is using smart phone, to do something as well)

Might help...

Hi Nate,

Are you seriously finding that it uses that much bandwidth? I do have a pack of girls here that are glued to social media...

ABSOLUTELY! the Javad does not take 1/2 an hr to upload for nothing. There is a BIG pile of data going there. And, Youtube eats up lots of bandwidth. So does social media. And, social media is "Demanding" in that it "Takes Priority" over your band width... they somehow wrote the code, to get a high priority, and slow down your JAVAD.

Another source of "Bandwidth Loss" can be in an apartment, where the neighbor came over, and asked what kind of modem you used, and you gave a blank look, and then he asked, may I take a look? you said sure! and he looked, and said here, let me take a pick of the kind you have got... and now he is running FREE internet, (Because he got the log in, with his camera, taking a pic of the backside, or bottom, where the sticker is....) through your wifi, and you are getting SLOWED DOWN because he us using part of your bandwidth.

Just try it when nobody else is on.
Then, try watching a youtube vid, while uploading, and OBSERVE the speed change.

Nate

Matt is right. If it isn't bogging down before you press the button to send to DPOS, then the internet connection is unlikely to be the culprit, unless you have Send to DPOS automatically turned on.

Hi Nate,

It's too bad you are out of state. I would buy you a beer (if you drink). I stopped many years ago.

Hi Matt, I typically leave them on the LS. I believe there are about 10 pages. Interesting side note: I make a comment about DPOS lagging a while back when prompted by one of the developers (it may have been Michael) and the lagging behavior corrected.

Shall I archive or remove for better performance.

Hi Shawn,

The system starts lagging when I select the DPOS page. Home>COGO>DPOS and it the delay begins. I'm not sending anything. I believe there were 2 instances of the app stopping the last time as well.

Yes.

I see where you are going with this Shawn. Is the behavior I am experiencing typical with a large number of files on the LS and "Send to DPOS Automatically" checked"?

So, turn off auto send to DPOS?

I don't know if that could be the cause, but I can imagine that it might. I would recommend turning off "Send to DPOS Automatically". Personally, I prefer to maintain control over when the process is activated.

I deleted a number of projects - down to 7 pages of files. Not sure if remaining files will impact performance.

Unchecked automatically send to DPOS.

The system stalls on the DPOS page and at some point Unexpectedly Quits (consistently).

The system unexpectedly quits when conducting other operations as well. Today it quit when running the update process.

A month or so ago the unit was replaced. I restored J-Field from a backup so that I would have access to my files, setups, code lists etc. Was is a mistake to restore? If necessary I can save all files, wipe and start with a clean install. It will take some time to renter my codes and setups however; it's far more importatnt to have a consistently reliable system than have access to old project files.

Actually it was a mistake. It should not be possible to restore complete full backup on another device - J-Field should block this attempt, because it may lead to bad things (as possibly in this case). Even if it does allow due to some bug, it is not advisable to do so. When you wish to restore data from full backup created on one device, to another device, you should restore only device-independent parts like projects or codes&tags. Restoring settings from another device is dangerous.
I agree we need to have some one-click means of migrating data from one LS to another, but currently there aren't any.

Maybe I didn't realize that the Release version still allowed a full restore from a back created on a different unit. Is this the case? I know the Test branch only allowed projects to be restored.

It must have been in the release branch, I implemented this check long ago. One possible cause is that the replacement receiver did not have it's serial number loaded (the thing which is done with "Restore factory data" command), the check theoretically may fail in this case.

Gentlemen, I'm using the testing branch. I believe I was using release when when switching devices.

Matt, I backed up the system. I'm inferring from the conversaion above that there is no reason to upload to support. Is that correct.

What do I need to do to solve this problem.

I'm thinking restore to factory settings and restore projects and codes?

Jim, the confusion is what option you used when you restored previously. Do you remember if you used the All Data option (bad and should not have been allowed) or All Projects (should not cause problems)?
