ESRI Collector App

I am currently using Carlson's RT3's with SurvPC w/ESRI to collect survey grade positions for our assets, such as manholes and water valves. which works great, except for the fact that it requires uploading a static map to be loaded on to the Carlson each time someone wants to go out in the field.

I am trying to Test ESRI Collector App to achieve the same results with being able to update our GIS in real time, which would vastly cut down editing time in the office, but I can not connect to my receivers as needed. In the Collector app, there is an option to utilize an external receiver with an outside app such as JAVAD Mobile Tools, but the only way to connect to the receiver is through Bluetooth.
My question is:
Why is it that I can't connect to our 4 Triumph 2's through Bluetooth in the Mobile Tools, this is how I'm using the Carlson RT3's?
This would also help those who utilize a hotspot and an iOS or Android device with Wi-Fi only.

I have upgraded my receivers to utilize the Free app, which works great! But it could be better if we could connect through Bluetooth.

Android devices can connect to JMT through Bluetooth. iOS devices and Triumph-2s do not support compatible Bluetooth profiles.

Are you working to resolve this issue?

I hate to think that I need to go replace all of our iOS devices with Android tablets.

The Triumph-3 will be able to connect to iOS devices through Bluetooth. Unfortunately it is not possible for the Triumph-2 to connect through Bluetooth to iOS devices.

When will they be coming out and are they comparable to the T2 or 1M?

Please tell us there is a 5/8 thread under that thing.

And I am going to guess to use it as a UHF Rover, you have to attach an external UHF antenna to the side?
Any idea on the weight?

The thread size has been increased to 3/8" (as compared to 1/4" in the LS). It will of course come with an adapter for 5/8" thread.

It does have a port to connect a UHF antenna. I believe these can be configured to have an internal antenna installed in the space above the ports on the rear of the unit.

Decisions like that perplex me. It is not like the 5/8 thread is something that is new to the surveying profession. I has pretty much been the standard forever.

I'm told the t3 does not have as much battery life as the LS. I realize it may be too late, BUT, as a base station, it is not critical to keep it small. I wish they kept it the same size as the LS, and put a nice big battery in it, with the space. I can see it needing a wire, and external power. It's just more stuff to keep up with. And, working. And keep rain out of. This is practical common sense from the real world of use. Rains come up unexpectedly, on 100 degree days around here.

It isn't designed as just a base Nate. I was hoping to replace one of my T1Ms with a T3 for a rover in a lighter and smaller form factor. The T1M gets a bit heavy on top of the pole after a long day. Not everyone wants to run an LS, I need a Carlson DC for my workflow.

5/8 thread would increase the size and weight of the receiver. The thread adapter to the receiver or your pole with Loctite Blue if you are going to be using a pole with 5/8 thread.

External power, means more rain vulnerabilities. Is there a price on the T-3 yet? That'll be the price to go with the new satellites. Another concern is if I don't go with the t3, (for a while), will I see performance drop, because 3 of the 6 engines are re-allocated to the new sats?

how do i connect to a Triumph 2 through the android app with wifi? I can't seem to get it to work. I am wanting to connect with wifi with the J-mobile app then connect to the receiver with bluetooth trough collector, if I am thinking through this correctly I should be able to obtain a fixed position this way and trick collector to use the fixed position.

Do you have a subscription to an rtn? That's the only way to get a fixed solution without having your own base. If so, I can help you set it up.

Matt,

Can I call you, I believe that would be easier to convey what I'm trying to accomplish. I already have the the unit connected to our base station, with Bluetooth, but I want to connect to the Triumph 2 via WiFi. I can't get it to work correctly, like it shows on pages 10-11 in the manual.
