I'm told... Via some conversations... I think it was a Javad user... That a repeater can be configured to rx on one channel, and TX on another channel. It uses 2 channels, but we are "back in the green". It'd be good if the routines to set it up like this were menu driven, and simple.

Anyone on the design or testing teams have any info to share on how the Galileo update is going? Surely, after this much time, we are getting close to having a firm release date on when we will be able to see this implemented into the LS? The new year is here and spring (and leaves) won’t be far behind!

Granted, there’s no chance any of us users could even comprehend what’s going into the implementation of the Galileo sats with the others, but honestly I find it extremely confusing that it is taking a year to do so.

Guess we’ll hope the saying is true.....great things come to those who wait :)

I've heard (not sure where) that getting the Javad scanner/total station has become a priority. Maybe that project is moving Foreward too?
Having said that, how many times do we re-compute jobs, due to additional information, deeds, or found monuments, that don't work with yesterday's computations?
I'm not defending overly optimistic completion dates, but admitting "it's happened to me too".

A little bird told me that current receivers, including javad cant effectively utilize the data from an additional constellation in a manner that produces a significant performance increase. It's a limitation of current hardware. A manufacturer can slap a sticker on their receiver and say "we have implemented Galileo, but it doesn't actually produce a performance gain. I suspect thats part of the reason for the delay, its just not beneficial enough to release and call an upgrade. It's still a great receiver as is.

Are you saying that our current LS's can't do it?
Are you saying "new hardware"?
I'm told that the t-2 cannot do it. But, that the LS can. Am I wrong?

I’ve heard what Ryan has too. It’s the processor in the LS that’s struggling with it. With the increase in the number of satellites, it increases the “power” needed to calculate all the corrections and get the solutions processed all in a timely manner.

That may very well not be the “true” story but we’ve asked in this thread for almost a year and really have never been kept up to date at all with the Galileo process or been told anything as to why it’s taking so long so guessing and listening to little birdies is all we’ve got.

If it is a processor speed issue, that again seems extremely odd as one would’ve thought that could’ve been foreseen long, long ago with everyone knowing Galileo was coming for years now. ......who knows, I’m just thinking out loud....

As Ryan says, we already have the best GPS system there is out there, but when we all heard this “was coming” months and months ago we started thinking it would be even better.

JAVAD hardware uses GLONASS more effectively than any other, which is why the receivers are so much better. Because GLONASS uses FDMA, which is why JAVAD has so many channels (to get the most out of FDMA). Updates to GLONASS have not kept up with schedule, hence neither has update to receivers. However, latest news is GLONASS new compliance document almost ready and a satellite ready to go up 2019 broadcasting CDMA. This should free up the hardware to effectively handle other constellations, while still being the best at using GPS and GLONASS. And that my friends, is all purely conjecture on my part:)

Very interesting stuff Duane, thanks for sharing. Just hard not to be excited (yet still sometimes impatient) with where GPS surveying is and where it is heading!!
