Feature Request - Base Equipment Battery Levels

It would be grand if J-Field provided the battery levels of the base receiver and radio. Is that possible?

Do you mean some sort of signal, that tells the VOLTAGE of the base battery? On the rover?
So, we can "monitor" the base battery? That would be nice!

I realized a long time ago, that my old Legacy E's did not tell me that number, so, I started with wheelchair batteries. Gel types.
Then, I got the Oddysey (good value there!) it is still running my van! (It's deep cycle performance is a bit down, but it is fine for a car!)
Then, I got the Optima BLUE TOP. Not as good as the Oddysey.
Then, I got a BIG marine deep cycle. I forgot to close the tailgate about 3 wks ago, and she fell out, rolled, and busted. (boo hoo)
Now, I have 50 AH SLA battery from Ebay.

So, My answer to you is: Go big. Overkill it. So you NEVER limit a day, due to battery size.
I also power a fan on my 35 watt radio, and occasionally power my elec fence charger, with a little elec fence protection around my base. At 35 watts, + fan + fence charger. I need big.
To keep up, I just check VOLTAGE at the end of the day. So long as it stays above 12 volts... we are ok.

What I'm saying is that it is immediate return, to buy a big battery.

But, I like the idea, of being able to know voltage, from the rover!

I totally understand what you mean and generally agree. I'm an engineer and most of survey work is an adjunct a design. I may topo a 5 acre parcel or prepare an as-built of a recently completed design. I have never had a problem with the rover or base. A few days ago I forgot to to charge my 1 watt radio before starting a project and about 2 hours in I lost the radio. Another 20 mins and I would have finished. All the way to the end the LS was at 100% UHF signal strength 1000 feet from the base. This was a 1 time occurrence for me. I suspect that most of you here have experienced this more times than you care to count. For me, the equipment is already overkill. I don't see a scenario where the I show up to a project site at a full charge and can't complete the day's work.

Two things:
First, I second Jim's request.
Second, Nate, you HAVE to post a picture of your base with the fence set up around it, please? I realize this is probably for cattle or the like, but I do a lot of urban work and the thought of that kind of deterrent system in the city put a big smile on my face, lol!

I just got in, long weekend. Daughter got engaged. Here is the fence charger, I use:

http://www.zarebasystems.com/store/electric-fence-chargers/b10li
It has a flat plug, to plug it into the same bat as the base.
I have not yet used it, with my Javad unit. I got fiberglass rods, about 3 ft long. I set up a temporary perimeter. For livestock.

Next time, I can get pics

Hey Nate, I'm curious about what you used for your fence and where you got it from as well. I just looked at the website above. Is this where you purchased the netting as well?

Here is what I have, I think
Its a zareba, it can be run with d batteries, (I've never used that though) I have a flat connector, that runs it off the base battery.
The fence charger has 2 modes. Training, and normal. I use the training mode, because you never know if there's a bull in the pasture, that has not been conditioned to respect electric fences.
I use 36" fiberglass rods, to string up the fencing.

We now have the warning if the base gets moved. Maybe that same white button could also show base radio battery voltage. Or, it could alternate every time we push that button through usefully base info. Base receiver volts. Base radio battery volts. Base guard. Or, maybe push that white button, and we get a full screen showing pertinent base info. Just thinking...

Speaking of Base movement monitor. It would be a huge source of comfort if this could have a sound attached to it. Last week, I was working in town (not a great part of town), had my base set up. There is pedestrian movement and my Truck was parked fairly close and it was in my eyesight most of the time. I go to locate the back corner of the lot next to me (out of view) and for the first time ever - I see the base movement notification go off. However, due to fence and canopy I had my Triumph jacked up 7 1/2 feet so did not notice it immediately. Only when I lowered it to see how many birds I was reading.
Needless to say, I ran out and saw my base missing. Only the legs were there. As I got closer, the base was on the ground. Someone walking by had unscrewed and set it on the ground upside down.
All in all, not a horrible outcome but if I had not looked at the screen and noticed it or if I was occupied in corner recovery and had it set down - It could have been 15 or 20 minutes before I had known and had someone taken it - I would have had no chance at recovery.

Its probably a hardware issue, but an audible alarm would be nice.
The base could have an audible alarm as well if it were ever removed before being downloaded or disconnected from the Triumph.

I get nervous every time I walk or drive away from the base and insurance coverage for surveying equipment is hard to come by here in Florida
