File Export Issues

Greetings once again!

When attempting to export a .csv/txt file for a single days worth of data, it seems as if the filter does not work.

I made many attempts, changing various output parameters.

I set up the list, checked the Design/Surveyed box, and the Surveyed box.

I then set the date/since date, and before date, but I still ended with 20 points +/- when we had only surveyed 3 points that day.

In viewing the filtered list, there would be four points for that day, the three points surveyed, and the base location, so the filter was working there.

However, when I previewed the export file, there were many more points (20+ as mentioned above).

I am sorry that I am not able to include screen shots of all the settings I tried, but you can trust me, I was very thorough in attempting the various options.

I do not know if the issue I am having also occurs with the PDF routine, or any of the other routines, as I have not taken time to check them.

If I am missing something, I would appreciate knowing what it is!

It would be very handy, in my opinion to add a simple Export Today choice button.

Thanks!

Regards,

Jon

The filter still works when I check it. In the What to Export screen you need to select the List option. Did you do this?

Matt,

Thanks for the reply!

Yes I did.

It showed 4 points on the next page after setting up the list by date, but the export file included points from previous days. All of the points to be exported were on a single page as well.

Jon can you attach a project archive of this project so we can try to reproduce this issue? There should be no need to include the raw data files in the archive as there is a file size limitation for attachments on the forum.

Matt,

Here is the project archive file, as far as I know.

Thanks again,

It appears you may have had "Save Aux Coords as Separate Points" enabled? Was this the case? If so it will result in addition points being created as each coordinate.

Also if you want connect the unit to RAMS I could take a lot this afternoon on your unit.

Matt,
I am almost certain that box was not checked, as I had unchecked it previously, after reading the Help file, but anything is possible.

I am currently nowhere near the unit, and won't be until tomorrow.

I will call my employer and have him run through the export routine, making sure that box is not checked.

Thanks!

Matt,

I had access to the unit today, and saved the screenshots of the workflow that I used.

I placed the screenshots in a "WORD" document.

I am attaching the zipped file.

My apologies if it is a bit disjointed, or long winded.

Regards,

Jon

Points 6030,6031 and 6032 are all Surveyed Design points so you need to check the Surveyed Design option. I haven't figured out why the wrong number of points are being displayed and why those base points are being exported yet. I can't reproduce this behavior on my unit with your project archive.

Matt,
I checked the Surveyed Design option as well, but ended up with 20 points, so I unchecked it and got the four points.

Thank you for all of your help!

I will continue to plug away at this thing, and will eventually figure it out, or make a workaround.

I am going to send you another file if you don't mind, similar to the Javad_Point_Export_Issues file I sent.

It will contain what I feel would be a more intuitive and linear workflow with regards to exporting CSV/TXT files.

Export and point filters were significantly reworked in 2.1 (which is in prerelease now), where I do not see described problems, except for one with time zone - inside the filter, points are considered always with UTC times, which leads to showing point 0+00.0/0 as created on 9 Jan when it's 8 Jan in UTC-7 tz. This timezone bug will be fixed in 2.1; for other issues please also see version 2.1, no fixes will be done to 2.0 anyway.

Mikhail,
I am looking forward to seeing the changes!

We are currently using J-Field Version 2.05.1011 (Installed at the factory)

Thanks!

I am attaching zipped Word document depicting what I believe would be a natural workflow for the exportation of CSV/TXT files.
Peruse it if you wish.

Regards,

Jon

I think all the changes Mikhail is referring to are related to improving the speed and refactoring for the Linux operating system. The only change to the GUI that I notice between versions is that the "Type Filter" has been added when exporting points points by the list.

Most users (me included) would not like having to step through all configuration options every time a file is exported. I think that probably 90% of the time most users do not need to change any of these settings so stepping though would not be good.

Note that you can choose Export from the menu in the points screen and it will be automatically configured to export the points as they are currently filtered in the points screen.

I don't see a reason to have the more settings info pulled up each time. Matt is right, most of the time these settings don't change. I don't think it's a bad idea to have it prompt for the export range after hitting next though. I go to that button every time I export so it would help the work flow a bit.

I appreciate your points of view.

I simply have multiple export formats that I deal with, sometimes, multiple times on a daily basis.
The pressing of an extra button or two to ensure I export what is needed is not that great of an effort to me.
The time spent doing so could be chalked up to due diligence, and operational expedience on my part.

Thank you for the alternative export method from the Points page!
I had not seen that before, and it worked the way I wanted it to.
The date filter I had set in the Data Exchange Page worked there.

The curious thing is, the export I desired from the Data Exchange page based upon date now works after running the export from the points page.
It had not from the Data Exchange page.
No settings had been changed prior to the export from the Points page, as I had tried to export the three points earlier today without success. (I still got 20+ points from the filtered data.)

I have a lot more digging to do with regards to the use of the unit.

Thanks for all of your help!

I too had several “issues” trying to select a range of points early on using the LS. After a while, I just gave up and started exporting “all points” every time. If it’s a second or third day of a job, then when I import the text file into Cad, I just type in the range of points I want to import there. That way, my LS settings stay the same and I just have to swiftly do, click, click click and may have 300 points in that text file. Then, if I started that day with point 222, at the “range of points” box in autocadd I’ll quickly type in 222-555(doesn’t matter if the end number is correct as long as it’s greater than your last point). Probably not the best - but works for me!

Thanks Darren!

I appreciate the advice!

I export data for multiple software packages, (not always CAD) and end users so I wanted to define the various workflows needed to do so.
When someone requests data, I want to give them exactly what they require. I wanted to eliminate the editing of the data if possible.
That is when I stumbled upon the above issue, which for some reason, unbeknownst to me, has corrected itself.
I have not tried exporting by point range as of yet, but I will give that a try.

There are several reasons why I wanted to simply export a single day's worth of data. I sometimes have several thousand points collected (multiple crews), but I do not wish to clear the accumulated data from the units.
I wanted to see how difficult it would be to set it up, what presets I could create and use for various recipients, and how difficult it would be to step someone else through the process.

I understand the process much better now, and will soon see if my above problem was an isolated incident, or if it will occur with a new project.
I am not discounting the possibility of my suffering a near terminal case of inter-cranial flatulence with regards to my issues, but I spent a good deal of time trying to resolve the problem, as have others, and I believe I was very thorough investigating the various options and settings along the way.

I learn from my mistakes, and failures, and sometimes that knowledge leads me to have more failures, and make more mistakes!
