Float as soon as you start

Probably no firm answer for this, but you are on the collect screen and you are leveling up the LS+ on corner and you see green on the engine status. Green is good. Hit start and the dreaded orange float appears instantly. Granted we are new to the LS+ and T-3, so no long term experience on normal workings of the process. And it is true that every job we have done so far has been medium to dense canopy and every medium to steep hollow on our end of the county it seems. My brother says we deserve to get a wide open one so soon. That being said the LS+ and T-3 have performed extremely well. We are believers in what it delivers with the right checks and balances. Still a lot to learn but everybody on here helps with the learning curve.
Is this a normal condition or just strictly a result of based solely on location (it does happen in the open more than once when you don't expect it would) and this not in the just in the afternoon doldrums here in east Tennessee. Reset engines and auto engine setup becomes a regular routine now. We are using TCP for base communicating to base at office (love it) up to 10 miles from the office. Just wondering if this is factor or what ever thoughts anyone has. Thanks Mike

That certainly sounds like exactly what is intended to happen when you have "Verify with Engines Reset" enabled and/or "Reset Engines at Start" turned on in your action profile.

That's how the Confidence counter increases - the LS gets a fixed solution and then resets that engine - rinse and repeat for each engine, incrementing the Confidence each time, up to the chosen Confidence Level.

Of course, before you press Start, the engines are in whatever state they happen to be in. Usually one or more are fixed and you see the Green. Press start and the resets begin. Depending on conditions, you'll see Float for different amounts of time. For example, out in the open the reset/fix process may happen so fast that you never see Float. But in some canopy, it may take a moment (or many moments!) for an engine to compute each solution and you'll see a lot more float time.

Does that sound about like what you're experiencing, or do you suspect that there may be other issues going on?

Quick edit: Indeed, even out in the open there are times when things are "just so" and it does in fact take a bit longer for the engines to start cranking out the fixes, even if they were happily Green before pressing Start.

Eric, an excellent explanation of what happens at Start. It makes sense that Start begins the process and basically tells the engines to wake up and go to work. With what you have said, I don't believe there are other issues other than a newbie pushing the buttons. The afternoon doldrums are a fact of life right now and sounds like it is being looked into (fingers crossed). Thank you. This what I love about this forum. Mike

Happy to help!

I'm fortunate that the doldrums haven't worked their way up to Alaska, as far as I can tell. :)

I will tell you that I have the same setup (Plus and T3) as you do Michael, and Eric.
Shawn Billings has me set up, without resets... I am not sure if this is standard. But, watch out! Next Version will do more to juice the turnip even more! (Sans a bug)
