As a Thanksgiving (maybe early Christmas, or start of new year) gift NGS has extended the deadline for submitting data for inclusion in the GPS on Benchmarks program. I know that I have wanted to add some of my local benchmarks to assure that when the new system is released my JAVAD system will be more consistent and accurate. I also know that I haven't done this for fear of spending a day (or several days) collecting data with wrong settings in my unit, or not properly downloading the information to NGS for processing.
We now have a full year to become a meaningful part of this program. I believe that if we all spent just a few hours in the next year working on this we could change the program from GPS on Benchmarks to JAVAD on Benchmarks.
I am starting this thread in hopes that someone either has, or is willing to produce, some JAVAD instructions on the settings and procedures for setup, profiles and process that will produce the necessary results.
I think that if JAVAD, and JAVAD users would participate in this program, it could grow into a great marketing opportunity, create user pride, a launchpad for publications, and give us something to be thankful for next Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to seeing a "JAVAD on Benchmarks Manual" to help me avoid the fear of doing something new and guide us all.
GPS on Bench Marks Extended:
NGS is officially extending the GPS on Bench Marks Campaign’s cut-off date for one year, until December 31, 2022. We are encouraged to continue to collect and submit GPS data to NGS for use in developing products to be launched with the Modernized National Spatial Reference System. The extension reflects the NGS commitment to include as much data as possible in determining the Reference Epoch Coordinates (REC) that will be used to create the Transformation Tools that will be released with the new NSRS. These will allow users to transform their data between current vertical datums (NGVD29 and NAVD88) and NAPGD2022, the new geopotential datum which is being developed.
