Import Point?

Aloha everyone,

I just purchased an LS, a Triumph 2 and the 35watt UHF radio. In three setups, to date, I have scored two successes, so pretty good so far. Now I ask for your help. I’ll post one question at a time, to keep answers organized.

Import ?

When I use data exchange to import (from a usb drive) a csv point file with a point created by averaging NAD83(PA11) coords from many OPUS solutions and I have a page with NAD83(PA11) open in my project. The coords are approx. 19deg 35min 07sec N and 154deg 59min 44sec W. I found out the cords must be decimal degrees. I would like to learn how to import DMS format. Can you explain? I can accommodate decimal degrees if I must. (Aren't people fussy?)

More problematic: The point comes in with an East Longitude, and during the base setup I get a "too far" message. I couldn't figure out how to edit the point during base setup. Tried an import of decimal degrees and 205 E Long and the data was not acceptable to the program. How can I import a csv file of lat and long for my part of the world?

I had success by doing a manual entry of the points lat and long, very easy to do, just not as convenient as importing a csv file.

Can anyone offer suggestions?
Thanks, Richard

Hi Richard,

I don't believe that the DMS format is currently supported for importing and exporting. Do you have UTM or state plane coordinates in your OPUS report that you could use to import your points?

Hello Matt,
Yes, I can use SPC. I think northings and eastings will import fine. Will try it asap. Thanks for the help.

Hi Richard,
Please post here samples of your files: 1) in DMS format; 2) in decimal degrees which failed to import. DMS format is currently not supported, but probably it's time to support it also. With decimal degrees, it's most probably a bug which we should fix.
Thanks.

Richard,
"Avg DMS W Long" file also contains decimal degrees. Still I see what's the problem with decimal degrees import, will fix it.

Aloha Richard!

Just out of curiosity, why work in East longitudes when you're east of the International Date Line?

Please send my regards to Ed Pare when you see him :)

Hello Mikhail,
The "Avg DMS W Long" file is in Degree Minutes Seconds. The format, which is typically used in many apps, is degrees then a decimal point, first two digits after the decimal are minutes the next two digits are the seconds and any additional digits are decimal seconds. So 19.3507462025 is 19 degrees 35 minutes 07.46025 seconds. I appreciate your work to improve and enhance the software.
