In the rain too...

Surveying in the rain. I wished I had a cloth, to wipe the screen. It was sort of slow to respond, in the pouring rain.

I'm having trouble with DPOS on this job. I did stay on those wet shots, long enough to get RTK on them. But, one JUMPED at the end of 200 seconds.

My Javad LS is number 0435.
My Base is T2-00728

The Job name is Salem ar
The BASE point is Number 275.

The points that were shot during that session were points 276-286
The point with a jump is 280 & 281.
The point shown above, (Rain Pic) is 284, 285, 286

This is where this session ends, because of too much rain!
I'm archiving and sending it in for you to look at.

Symptoms are that when I try to use the option Base Processing, it quits in a few seconds.
When I select Base Processing, WITH base shift, it does it in about 10 mins. But, I never get any dpos solution to the base... except on the DPOS screen. Where it shows, some few hundredths for the move... but, at the points screen, it does not show any signs of dpos.

Thank you. I NEARLY went home, trusting DPOS would calc these. But, decided I wanted RTK as well.

In making a little rain gutter for it, I have a few questions.
Will silicone interfere with GPS signal?
What to do you think about placing a small strip of the LOOP velcro, on the SIDES of the antenna, and placing the HOOK portion, on the "Lid" or visor, so that I have a little cover?
The hook and loop velcro, comes with a removable adhesive strip, on the back. If it did not work, I can clean that up, pretty easy. Same with Silicone. Right now, I am just talking. For a while, I plan to use a cheap shower cap, from the dollar store. But, I am looking for good ideas.

Thank you

Nate, you have shown great patience in rain.
Probably it will not take long time until we'll see this kind of device officially included in the accessories list. Just help with a little lobby.

Best regards,

Sorin.

If I just knew how to test for interference... so I'd know if the substance I was using, to "Shield things" was causing interference. (All I want to do is manage water!)
I have heard of various substances, interfering. One of the main offenders was paint. (No danger there, I'm happy with the color!) But, I know, sometimes things are not as they seem. Some plastics, contain substances, that reflect, or restrict RF.

If something reflect, or restrict RF then, in my opinion, it could be treated as obstruction.
Typically, RF interference brings some unwanted signals from an external source.

Nate, as long as you don't put a metallic sheet over the LS you should be fine. Plastic is not a problem.

I am dumb, and I do stupid things sometimes. But, the aluminum foil hat for the LS is too stupid for even me to try!

The next field day after the rain day, (pics above) I left the radio at the office. Where I had everything drying out. I have a protocol, to get everything dry... and I forgot to collect all my gear.

Thanks Matt. The LS has made a total game of fun out of surveying. Even in the rain.

I don't do any alcohol, beyond medical use, and communion. Having been down that road, way to far, It's wise for me to stay "on the wagon". But, I do whittle stuff, in the woods, while waiting on the LS.

OK, it's been raining. I never actually quit surveying. I just change gears.
Since it has been raining, I went shopping for a remedy. The hard pelting rain drops press buttons on the LS.
This is a cutting board, from the Dollar store. It's about 8.5" x 11". I cut 2 holes in each end of the cutting board, and put paracord through it, and tied it on.
Now, we have a bonnet! it has one side rubberized, and one side hard plastic. The rubber side is down.

I will need a mechanism to dry my hands, and fingers. Rain gear for me. I already have my papers in ziplock bag.
It is not that I TRY to get caught in a rain storm. It is that I manage to do it. So, Next time I am caught out in it, I am gonna get er done!! (my plan, anyway!) I wonder if it will alter the GPS signal? I hope not.

Another advantage of this, is while setup, and pelting down rain, it keeps rain out of the prism pole tubes.
I am thinking of adding a little weight to the bipod feet. Large washers, or the like.
