The NSPS News & Views published a call for team members for the International Surveying Compeation to be held in November:
"Plans Being Finalized for International Surveying Competition, November 12-17, 2018 in the Washington, DC Area – Help Wanted!"
The link for details is:

What a marketing and user pride oppertunity!
Is JAVAD up to the challange?

GNSS - These measurements will showcase each team’s ability to utilize the network of Global Navigation Satellites to independently determine the latitude, longitude and ellipsoid height of their new point. The teams will be provided at least two methods to accurately perform positioning with a GNSS receiver to validate the horizontal coordinates as previously determined by traverse, and height as performed by the leveling. Each team will have a dualfrequency GNSS receiver and be provided with access to the Trimble regional real time network as well as the option of checking those values by submitting their GNSS observations to the National Geodetic Survey's Online Positioning User Service (OPUS).

Sorry; this is a false alarm. Trimble is providing the GNSS receivers, as well as total stations and DiNi digital levels for this event.
I should have checked closer before I posted.

I've never used trimble. An old buddy went out in the field w me last week. He was amazed. He said several times that trimble couldn't get the shots I get with my JAVAD.

I have used topcon a lot. Topcon can't touch what JAVAD can do.

Amen brother!!! We were strictly Topcon for nearly 15-20 years - strangely the Hiper V (which correct me if I’m wrong but I believe was Topcon’s first major unit without you know who designing the majority of it) forced us to look elsewhere. It wasn’t even close to the same kind of reliable unit the Hiper GA’s were. Those little buggers were the gold standard for quite some time. The radios in those beasts were unbelievable.
Once you go Green, you’ll NEVER go back!!! ;)

The way I understand this after talking with our NSPS rep, the competition was proposed to NSPS by the Chinese. It's not a matter of which brand can do better, but rather which nationality can do better. NSPS needs volunteers to step up to the plate and hit a home run over the great wall of China.

Difficult to get excited or contests between nationalities. I do think rereading the RPLS thread that StLSurveyor posted is worthwhile. Tremendous good analysis, and results that find Trimble & Javad have little difference in accuracy or ability to pick up those "impossible" shots. Javad of course provides far more user input and costs far less. Shawn participated in last year's face-off, and the initial proposal to go head-to-head was Nate's.
