J-Mate

Does anyone have a feel for whether the J-Mate might conceivably be used for limited topographic/design Survey type scanning? I do less of the commercial type as-builts because they are so tedious - and have thoughts about scanning to break this tedium in the field. I think it is mostly geared towards boundary type work?

Ralph, I believe it will be very well suited to commercial as-builts, but we'll have to wait and see how the system works before we can say for certain. It's one of the top applications I anticipate using it for.

And yes, way too far ahead, whoa Nelly.......might the Victor LS control the J-Mate? Obviously we lose GNSS and other functionality - but as a stand-alone TS, if we split into an LS and TS crew? I know, I know, we would actually have to find someone to work with us

For the $20K price point of the J-Mate you can get a *much* more capable robotic total station from one of the second-tier manufacturers (e.g. GeoMax, my personal favorite). In my opinion, the GNSS integration of the J-Mate is the only thing in its favor given its cost.

I was having fantasies of getting rid of the RTS and the three tripods and backsite setups. Maybe a smaller vehicle, a Tiny car. (0: Keeping the LS with the J-Mate but having the option of running the JMate as just a TS on occasion.

More seriously, the photographic, photogrammetric and smart scanning functionalities of the J-Mate are pretty exciting, potentially. Most all of the RTSes lack these features - and IMO the third party robotic control is quite lacking.

I think we will have to wait and see how testing goes for the JMate. It has a lot of potential. I agree Jim, you can buy nice robots for under 20k, but I think the intent of the JMate isn't to compete with a robotic total station, but rather supplement the LS when needed. The scanning capability could really make the JMate stand out.

I am kinda surprised nobody else has mentioned that they signed up as well. I assume the 5PLS Team will be testing as well. Patrick, have you been contacted by anybody at Javad yet? I haven't.

There are quite a few folks that have signed up. The 5PLS team is signed up as well. I don't think anyone has been contacted yet.

I have also signed up. Like everyone else, I have not received any acknowledgement from JAVAD. Some communication would be nice.

Silence. I suspect that when units are available, we'll be the first to hear.

Also, there has been so many sign up that the 20 testers will be selected from the group of registrants by Javad.
