I purchased the LS in June of 2014 on the introductory offer. Because of my workload I was never able to send the LS to California for a screen upgrade.
"Question is" will the old original LED screen work with Linux?

I am not sure if it will or not but you can get a rental unit to be able to ship yours back to be fixed.
