LS Keyboard Lags by one keystroke

I just purchased the LS and am becoming familiarized with the equipment.

Upgraded to WinCE OS 7.0.46.0 and the keyboard now lags by one keystroke. For example when entering the sequence ABC I see nothing on the screen until B is tapped on the keyboard.

Does every onscreen selection require confirmation with the the hardware "check" button near the upper right hand corner (just above the "home" button on the LS? That's happening as well. I don't think this was the case prior to the upgrade.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for this report. I've not heard of the first tap lag. And just to be clear, if you wait several seconds before tapping B, the A isn't displayed until then - is this understanding correct?

I have seen delays in behavior particularly when there have been large data sets loaded.

In answer to your question, no, the mashing of the checkmark key isn't required; however, it sometimes handier to use than in some scenarios. Generally I tap the virtual button OK, Esc, etc.

Which screen do you have? the capacitive (like your phone or tablet) or the resistive?
Did this problem persist after you powered the LS off completely and restarted from a cold boot?

Hi Kelly,

My understanding is this is the latest and updated display. It was just manufactured acquired on Friday.

Now that I have used the unit over the weekend, it appears that this is not limited to the keyboard. Essentially every display action requires a double tap. The checkmark key was serving as the second tap. For example - from the home screen if I want to launch the setup wizard I can:

1. tap setup icon on the display followed by the check mark; or
2. double tap the setup icon on the display; or
3 press the hardware setup key one time.

This behavior is the same if I use a finger or the supplied stylus.

I have also noticed that a single tap of the keyboard backspace key causes the key to stick and deletes the entire line. This happens at least half of the time. This is not the same as the clear key.

Yes I have restarted the unit at least 6 times over the weekend and nothing has changed.

I'm thinking it was the latest OS update. I did the update within the first 5 mins of having the device so I am not 100% sure this behavior didn't exist before updating.

The work around is to use the hardware arrow keys and check mark for all entry. It makes for slow and tedious entry...

definitely not normal. One more hoop you might jump through... perform a forced update of the operating system and J-Field by going to Support>Software Update>Settings>Apps Settings> and checkmark J-Field and WinCE OS. Perhaps something went wrong with the install. This will force it to do the download and installation again.

If this doesn't work, it is quite possible that this version of WinCE has a problem. You'll need to contact Michael Glutting at Javad GNSS at (408) 770-1770.

Jim,

Good - Michael Glutting should be able to confirm, but for now, we'll assume the capacitive screen is in play. Please post a screenshot of the of the Update Software screen off of your Triumph-LS.

I have just tried to replicate your issue having first downloaded and installed the current release as shown in the Update Software screen above and was not able to see the delay that you've reported. I'm using the capacitive display if you're curious.

Please post a follow up after you've chatted with Mr. Glutting and the cause of the issue has been identified and hopefully resolved.

I am in the process of a forced update per Shawn's suggestion. When that finishes I will post the screen shot.

The current software is identical to what you posed above. OS and J-Field are force reinstalling the same versions.

No change after the forced update.

My Windows 7 Ultimate machine didn't see the Triumph LS when I connected. Can you post a link for the Windows LS usb driver?

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your help.

I spoke to Michael and apparently the server is updating the OS to an older version of software. This is causing both a display and sync issue (hence the photo above rather than a screen shot). I am unable to access the LS from my PC.

I didn't write this down while chatting with Michael but believe it's correct.

The update downgraded the OS:
from 7.0.47.5

to 7.0.46.0

Hi Jim,

It was great to meet you last Friday at the NCGPSUG meeting and deliver your brand new TRIUMPH-LS and TRIUMPH-2 system to you.

As we discussed, thank you for alerting us to the issue you experienced while updating your TRIUMPH-LS. The WinCE OS you installed from the server was older than the version which was installed on your TRIUMPH-LS at the factory. We will provide you with instructions to restore WinCE OS 7.0.47.1 on your TRIUMPH-LS in the next 24 hours or less.

Regards,
Michael Glutting

My apologies. I was incorrect. The driver is supplied directly by Microsoft for the LS. There is no need to download or install a driver to sync with the LS.
