LS vs. LS+ Radio Range - Real World Test

Hello Friends,

You may have read my original post about the woes of radio range after upgrading to my LS+. I had to have my LS+ repaired and before I send my LS rental back, I have an opportunity tomorrow to do a real live test of the radio range comparing each.

I have new cables and mast from Javad for my radio and good external antennas for both units. I plan to set up in a location where I have the option to drive a long distance on relatively flat terrain and also be able to go the other direction over hilly terrain.

I want to video some of it. What would you do to test? What screens would you like to see side by side?

I did take some notes from posts by @Matt Johnson and @Shawn Billings from my original post to try. What else?

GO.

Asking for suggestions on what to test. I have two units and can put them side by side for testing. Hopefully testing tomorrow.

Keep the units at least 10’ apart so there will be no interference between the two.

You will want to take pictures or screen shots of the uhf screen.

I recommend stopping every 1,000’ and set them up beside each other and take pics of the uhf screen and keep going until you loose connection to base.

There was not any noticeable performance between the LS and LS+ in my test today. I set my base up on a hill on a golf course (ideal conditions) with a new mast and cable at 15.5' and was able to get 3.5 miles on both units with internal antenna at near 100% LQ.

I went down some hills and around some timber to where I was forced to put on the external antenna and even then, both units performed equally.

I could tell right away that something had improved in my LS+ or my configuration since I had sent my LS+ in for repair.

I had slipped in wet leaves and my LS+ landed on a rock on its side and on the external antenna. I was told that the chassis was fractured and needed to be replaced. I remember a post somewhere about some LS+ upgrades on older units affecting the internal radio. I don't know if mine was one of those or not, but I liked the performance today.

I had no configuration changes at the time I upgraded and noticed lower range. The items that have changed since poor performance are: 1) bigger marine grade battery that keeps good voltage all day 2) my LS+ was repaired.

I have many UHF screen shots but they just show what I've told you. I'll be able to give it more real world projects soon and if anything changes, I will post here.
