M-Local questions

I have just started working J-Field and have done localizations on two projects. I surveyed known points and then imported coordinates from existing surveys. After many fits and starts (and hair pulling) I have managed to get them localized to each other and showing up on the same place on the screen. Yeah!
I also imported a dxf file for each project with linework. On one project the linework is in the correct location, the other it is 30000 feet away. That project also does not show the M-local coordinates in the point details. I am sure I will sort it out eventually, but does anyone have any guidance here?
Thanks, Bill

Make sure you are importing into a page with the local coordinate system set to that page.

M-local does not equal localization. Each have a specific purpose. M-local is used to make minor shifts of a few feet or less to known points in a known coordinate system. Localization is used to determine how known points in an unknown arbitrary coordinate system relate to a known coordinate system.

Be sure to check out my videos on these topics.

Adam, I have found that to be a critical and easy place to mess up with so many options of page and coordinate systems to choose from in different points of the process.

Shawn,
I had not quite realized that there was a difference between M-local and localize. Even the icon for them is the same. I only have two projects so far that I worked with local coord systems and I may have done one with each method.
After doing a localization, would the processed point info screen show a localized solution like the M-local does?

Now I see that there is also real time position shift. So many choices!
Your video on multi point localization is what got me through it, thanks.
This is kind of like learning a foreign language, starting out only knowing a few words, gradually becoming more fluent.

Bill, if you are starting autonomous base and are going to tie into a state plane monument, then use shift. If you are going to tie into an unknown system (5000,5000 for instance an old survey not on state plane) then use localization. I'll send you my cheat sheet for localization.
Edit, terms may confuse; "shift" = "M-Local".
