OK, I plan to change to ANDROID device.

I am using an apple device now. But the screen is too small. And, it is full of pics. And, it is persnickity about, well, everything. Won't let me decide what about stuff. I want to pick and choose, whats on it, and what's not.
And, I want a bigger screen.
And, I'd like it to be pretty fast.
Can you recommend a unit? Samsung? Motorola? LG?

I really want to be ABLE to control the LS, while it's up at 12'. I have a nice 16 ft prism pole. It's hard to SEE it way up there. So, of course, get an android! With a bigger screen. And conquer a number of problems. I just checked with the VERIZON store, and they want to string me on payments, 105 or so a month. I want to just buy it on EBAY, and own it, and do my own thing with it.
Tell me what you really like.
Thanks!
Nate

I've been carrying a Samsung Galaxy S5 for the last 8 months or so. In addition to regular smartphone applications, I use it as a WiFi hotspot for RTN connection with my T-LS. It's still a phone-sized device -- slightly bigger than an iPhone 6 -- so it's not something I like to type on except for texts and short emails. But it's been rock-solid in performance, and the battery life has been good, too.

I thought about getting something larger, but I like having my phone on my belt, and larger isn't really going to work well for that.

I have an S5 also. Has excellent screen and memory, decent battery life, and you can replace the batteries.
It is Water resistant (Gaskets) and the sound is good.
runs Lollipop OS.It goes wacky sometimes with phantom calls and screens, but they all seem to do that.
Check out the Spigen cases (streamlines the buttons) for it and also the Gorilla glass screen protectors.
My son is a software engineer at Lockheed and he has to write for Apple OS and PC and he prefers the S5 also.

If you buy one on the open market you can open up a whole new world and get rid of all the Google and carrier crap by doing this:

and do what YOU want with the phone.

Have a look at what you can do with a rooted phone.
I haven't done it yet but since you might buy an unlocked phone it might be what you are looking for.
these phones actually have a lot of capability when unleashed.

Really, I would like to connect to the LS, however, I am not happy with my phone. Kill 2 birds, one stone. But, I might just do that tablet thing. Thanks Matt.

Another happy S5 user here. Good machine, water-resistant, can swap batteries if needed. Add an OtterBox cover and you're set.

Nate, if you just want a device to connect to the LS while it is up on a pole, you don't need a data plan. The RAMS mobile app connects through Bluetooth so you would only need an iOS or Android device with bluetooth. There are several very inexpensive tablets in this category, for example: NeuTab N7 Pro 7'' Quad Core Google Android 4.4 KitKat Tablet

Good morning Matt,

Could you elaborate on how the RAMS mobile app can connect through bluetooth? I am able to connect to my LS while both devices are on the same wifi network, but I don't know how to do this using bluetooth.

Here is the first problem that I'm having: I am unable to successfully pair my Samsung Note 5 to my T-LS. It rejects it every time.

Don't use Bluetooth. Download RAMS app for android from Google Play. Follow instructions from application. It works just like RAMS, except your phone becomes the network (local area network) and doesn't require a connection to internet. Communications between LS and phone are through the modem in the phone.

Thanks Shawn. I am able to connect to the LS using the RAMS app when both my phone and the LS are connected to the same wifi network such as our office network. How would I set up my phone when out in the field where there is not another external network? Would I use the wifi direct feature of the phone? Or turn on the hotspot?

Yes I misspoke when I said it connects through Bluetooth. It connects through WiFi like Shawn said.
