Point numbering

In the latest version of JField when telling it what point number to store, you hit "Clr" it puts a default in of "Point 1". This is definately not what is wanted here. A "Clr" should clear the screen entirely.

If it were possible, the behavior demonstrated in other Windows-related venues might be considered for use here, and elsewhere in J-Field. The behavior that is being referred to is when the user is to enter something in a field where an existing value is present, the default selection of that existing value is shown highlighted (selected) and the user can either 1) overtly place the cursor anywhere and thereby maintaining that value to be accepted or further edited or 2) overtly begin typing which immediately clears the previous entry.

Just wanted to bump Kelly's suggestion back to the top. Looks to me like this would save a tap on the Clr key. Anyone else think this is a good idea?

I do wish you didn't have to hit the clr key to input a different code or whatever it may be.

This would be very useful, input in Carlson software is quick. It uses the highlighted technique. I have been using Carlson 12 years and I am very fluid with input on it. I have trouble with entering data in j field. Repetive unneeded clicks and pecks are a major loss of time in the field.

The CTT icon displays azimuths, can this be changed to bearings to match the compass?

Storing a point from the stake to line menu puts way to much info in the points list. This makes it impossible to down load the info in to Carlson. Even changes the coors. This needs to be fixed!

If you add the "Accept As" user defined button you can use click on it to edit the default description, point name and code.

Adam, We are going to improve the data entry in J-filed. I need to understand all requirements better.
I see that there are situations that user need to enter the same text repeatedly, like Codes and Tags. We implemented Codes and Tags "favorites" to make the data entry super fast for Codes and Tags. Also we have memory save (MS) and memory recall (MR) buttons on keyboard screen to save and recall frequently used texts.
There is also a situation like "point name" that should never be duplicated. In this case you may need some sort of autofill (highlighting) and editing.
We will implement highlighting soon. but let me know your thoughts of the two situations I mentioned so we satisfy your requirement better than Carlson software or any other software. My new job is "Data Entry Manager"!

Thanks for working on this, the overtype or highlighted input will clear up the problems I am having with data entry for text and numbers. Getting Jfield to mesh with Carlson F2F is the other issue. Shawn has responded with a few ideas in the other post that could maybe work, if I could edit the code after it is picked from the library, just like you edit a point number or the description field, this would fix it for me. By the way I have been very impressed with the overall performance of the LS in non GPS friendly environment.

Adam, the problem is when you enter "point name" or in other situations too? Please give me details of your data entry process. Thanks.

Yes in the point name entry and the point description entry. I tap point description, tap clr, then proceed to type in the text.

So, is it OK for you to tap clr and then have the highlighting option? If you don't hit clr, then you have to edit what you see, which will be the lat point name that you entered. right?
