Point Text On Map Screen

Is there any setting to turn all point numbers and descriptions on at every zoom level? There are times when I have to zoom in to a 10’ scale for them to become visible. I know there are dots on the screen for point groups. But when I’m on a 100 Ac. Boundary and I want to pan to a stone I have located it would be nice to view All of the points at a larger scale.

It's not possible but I second the request. I asked for a setting to be added to the veiw settings that would show those items regardless of map scale a long time ago. I assume it's still on the to do list.

I'm going to be brutal here and say that the map screen is by far the worst part of (an otherwise good) J-Field software. There's no reason to have so many empty white boxes around the sides, and the fonts and text sizes are often illegible, it's constantly resetting your last zoom/pan area, etc, etc. When you compare to what another major company's map screen does (even on their model "3" controllers) I think there's lots of room for improvement here.

The font options for the map/review screens are a user option and can be changed.

The review screen does not have any white boxes on it.

The zoom and pan location all remain unchanged when I try cycling between screens. When do you see it changing?

I am aware that the font sizes can be changed. But that doesn’t affect all point being visible at all zoom scales. As shown on your screen shot, you can only see a few of the point numbers and descriptions. The rest are just shown as a blue dot. I would like all points to be visible at all times and all zoom scales.

We have just added 2 options: "Clusterization Cell Size" and "Show Overlapped Captions". When "Clusterization Cell Size" is set to 1 pixel it prevent point grouping during zoom out until they occupy same screen pixel. "Show Overlapped Captions" prevents hiding overlapped point name, description etc.

I was not aware of the font options - that is awesome. The screen I'm talking about is in the cogo functions. When selecting points to inverse, compute from, etc. that version of the map screen is different, and there's a lot of blank space around the margins. It would be helpful to have buttons where the user could have a custom preset zoom level, and then another button to pan to current location. Maybe also a button to zoom to point extents so when you're working in the office it doesn't keep centering on your current location (in case you don't want keep toggling off/on the "follow me" function.

The resetting happens if I'm trying to inverse something, or cogo. When I use map screen as a selection, I end up pinching, panning, lots of screen touches to zoom in to where I'm at on a project. I'll pick the point, and then if I go to pick the next point for the other end of the inverse, the screen is zoomed way out again, and I end up browsing through the map manually to find myself and get a point maybe 50' away on a projects that's 4 miles square.

It takes a little time for new features to move from the development branch to prerelease and then onto release Michael.

Aaron,

I like your suggestions. Part of my awkwardness with the map screen is a lack of practice.

I haven't whined about an emulator for several months, however your discussion about working in the office relit the fire. I believe an office emulator of the LS would be a WONDERFUL ADDITION to the JAVAD family of products. I find myself rushing to DPOS, evaluate results and otherwise handle data on the LS when the unit should be in the field producing. An emulator would also allow me to practice, develop a company manual, develop profiles and otherwise enhance production. It would also provide a larger screen.

I would be willing to pay for an office emulator.

In the collect screen you can hold down on the compass box and it turns the white box off

Excellent work! I think this is this best improvement I've seen to the map in a very long time. Users will be able to quickly decipher the points in the map screen because of this setting. Thank you!!!!

Another change is coming to J-Field that is going to have as big an impact on us as when the color tv took the place of the ole black and white picture tube.
Color by Code!
