Radio Bracket

For those of you that have the Javad radio bracket, how do you like it? I keep going back and forth on whether or not I should make my own or just buy this one:

Thanks!

Do both. Not being glib, but, if you like making stuff, what a cool project! And you'll be better suited to make such evaluations... or at least that's what I thought. I'm still not sure which I'll grow to use most, but I know that whenever I use a repeater, they'll both be pulling duty.

I had some old steel parts from my ultralight airplane days and fabricated this bracket for my 901 radio.
Ideally it would be nice to have one piece for all mounting. (Tripod and Rod)
For this setup I only extend the lower thicker sections of the rod for stability.
If I had to set up for an extended period of time in one spot and needed more height or it was windy
I would use some guy lines for stability.
Digging a hole for the base keeps the base from kicking out and for paved areas perhaps a weighted base could be fabricated
with the ability to be nailed down.

Hey Joe,

I posted this a while back and have been using it exclusively. It works great, especially for smaller projects - this allows me to set up a single fixed height tripod for both the radio and base.

Thanks Jim, I did see that (thanks for posting the idea) and have been doing the exact same thing for smaller jobs. It is a nice small footprint. My bracket came in and I have been happy with it. For longer distances, I mount the radio to a 4' range pole extension on top of a tripod, which will get me close to 10' off the ground. I have two 4' extensions, but if I used both, I would probably need guy wires as well. I'm going to visit my local hardware to see if I can find the right grommet to put in the lower larger hole of the bracket that goes over the rod. Then you would have a nice snug fit and the bracket won't scratch the pole. Picky, I know!

I sprayed mine with rust oleum flexidip. It creates a removable rubberized surface that provides some protection against scratching.
