SCREEN CHANGE

I have a LS #298, a T-2, and a 35 watt radio. I also use the MS DOT RTN (MDOT). I installed the updates last night. I had not installed updates for a long time. All the screens are new.
I use two profiles "UHF" and "MDOT". I cannot find the UHF profile. The MDOT profile seems to work. I need the UHF radio to work in order to survey today.
Also, I cannot figure out how to start a new project. I can recall the last 4 projects that I have done, but not some old on-going projects. I have panicked.

If the books have changed I will try to figure this out, but I will be glad to get help.

Hey Charles, there is a pop up that has a link to the migration guide on the home screen of the new user interface. It describes how to changes correction sources. To start a new project, tap project, then tap the small + button.

The LS works, but not well. The "STOP AT 120 EPOCHS" does not work. I manually stop at about 150 epochs. There is up to 5 feet of difference in some of the positions on the same point. I am taking 2 or 3 readings on each point, some are tight and some are not. I turned the "RTPK USAGE" off, and that seemed to help. I used it on one project with poor results, and on another project with fair results except for 2 positions that were 5' apart on the same point. The next day I went back to the same point and collected 3 more positions that were somewhat close to one of the positions.

I've noticed this, too. Instead of stopping at the specified number of epochs and then verifying the point, it just keeps on clicking up the epoch count and has to be manually stopped. I suppose I could reset the RTK engines to get a verification of sorts, but that's not near as convenient as having it do the verification without my intervention.

When I have noticed this before it was because some other criteria was selected dictating the stop. Typically it is the “RTPK/RTK must agree” or “Stop when Variety is met”. Also, check the min/max duration settings. Make sure all other settings are off if you want only epoch count to dictate. I think JFIELD makes all selected criteria be met before the stop. I think….:)

Thanks Jim, since my LS does not stop at 120 EPOCHS and I have to stop it manually, I think that the verify function is not working. I have no way to be sure that a point is good other that repeating it several times. Also, I can't adjust the power setting on my radio. I have tried to follow the mitigation guide and I get to where I should select the radio button and nothing happens. I worked one time and I reduced the power since I was just testing, but I can't get back there.

I have the RTPK USAGE turned off since I do not understand it. I have read the "white paper" and the post about it.

If you are connecting to the 35w with bluetooth, make sure the base and radio are paired prior to connecting the LS to the base. Then once you are on the screen allowing you to select "internal" or "external", tap the the "Radio" button to the right to get into the settings. I found that my T3 doesn't like it if I connect to it with the LS prior to powering up my 435BT and allowing it to pair.

I learned how to change the power setting for my 35 watt radio. I changed it from 1 watt to 35 watts. I read the instructions many time before I understood. This is a great improvement.

My problem is that the LS will not stop at 120 EPOCHS. I stop it manually at above 150 EPOCHS, but no verify. I repeat each shot 3 times. The results don't always agree. I think Jim Frame's post says this better that I can say it. I have not heard if Jim got his LS working.

Also, the LS often clucks but the EPOCH counter doesn't move. Sometime this happens and the counter resets and continues to progress. But some times it just goes on and on. I finally stop and reject the point. Then it works okay.

I'm pretty sure this is not the case. I wish it was. It stops when any of the criteria (RTPK, variety, time, epochs) is met, not when they are all met.
John,
I have had success with auto/stop/store/restart. I took about 300 shots one day doing some testing with this feature. However, I have not used it based only on epoch count. I’ll be glad to try and see if it doesn’t work for me. Is it only the epoch count(120) you are concerned with?

I just want to get location for a point that I can count on. Under very good conditions, I can collect 3 points on the same location with rod in a tripod and they will agree. If there is a tree near by, the 3 points will not agree. I have temporarly shut my business down until I can depend on my LS. I will just work on a project down on my farm. I am too old to go back to the total station and sun shots. My thanks to John and nusouthc for helping. I have not found the variety setting. I do not know how to retrieve, or print out, a screen shot.
