Smart Tip

We're finishing up testing and software development. The physical smart tip that testers have is a mock-up and not final production, so I can't speak to the build quality, because what we have isn't for release. I can speak to the sensor. It is excellent and seems to be step for step with a Schonstedt in terms of sensitivity. It's lightweight and extremely portable on the end of the monopod. As a solo guy, I hope I never have to tote a locator around in the field again. It reduces my load substantially.

Although it is exciting to see what the development team is doing, and I love to dream as much as anyone; the practice of advertising a product that is not in production is not a good public relations ploy. (IMHO). I have had a smart tip on order for more than a month. I saw the new "J-Pod" in The American Surveyor, October issue and was excited. I called my 5PLS representative and was told that he did not yet have a prototype and had no information about price or projected delivery time. I am more comfortable with my supplier if I think I can believe what they publish. Once again I love to know what might be and what is in development, dreamware or production: but I feel deceived by the present practice of making me think I can buy something that is not in production.

Javad has made me so very happy with the OTHER stuff, they just KEEP ADDING, that I am willing to forgive this faux pas. And, this is the first one I have seen.

Vaporware is a Javad tradition. I don't say that in a discourteous way, it seems to be baked into the business model. While I probably wouldn't follow that path myself, I've learned to adjust my expectations regarding availability of Javad products.

I suspect that the sales lost to disappointed shoppers is balanced by prospective customers excited to learn about what's coming, and by having enthusiastic customers assist with product development through real-world application, the company can generate sales while still refining the product.

Jim, I agree with you. I would hope that JAVAD could find a way to put a note on their adds or change wording that would give potential users notice that the product is "under development", "coming soon" or other words that would be more straightforward. The LS support team has accomplished the resolution of potential conflict when posting on this and other boards by adding the 5PLS designation to their profile. Something that simple might make a lot of difference in their advertising/marketing/development strategy. Like others, I love to see what they are planning and dreaming about. Just a little more transparency would feel better.

We advertise the product to show you what is coming. But we will not ship them it until they are fully tested by the PLS. We will not put 8 pages of advertisement for vaporware! We went through three revisions to ship the best.
And the tests and competitions that you see by PLS team in front of our office are real tests.
Shipment will start next week.

Please know that there was no insult intended in my post: just an observation. I like your product so well that I just ordered my second LS system, and I run a two man operation.

I did not see it as an insult. We were discussing with the team. They all said it was better to let people know ahead of release so people know what is coming in case they want to purchase something, not to blind side them with announcing a product and be asked why you did not inform us earlier. I think in one of the ads we put a release date and later we omit to update it. I think the release date was just removed.

When I go to the J-tip users manual on your facebook page or on this homepage and click on the pdf print version in the upper right corner I get an error message.

I just tried, looks like the links not activated yet Steve. Check it on Monday again.

Thanks. The "news" link and the direct link on the website still don't work on my computer. The "downloads" link did work.

I'm picking mine up from Adam tomorrow. Let the games begin.

I am having trouble Calibrating my J-Tip, the manual is a little vague. "Rotate the J-Tip slowly (about 4 seconds per rotation) around its three axis until you see the successful calibration message" can I get a little bit more in depth description on how to calibrate? Rotate what and how? Rotating and holding in that position for 4 seconds? or what? 3 axis how?
Thanks,
Gregory

The J-Tip just needs to be slowly rotated in all directions, for example you could rotate it around the Z axis at a rate of 1 revolution per 4 seconds and then repeat this for the X and Y axes. Continue repeating this process until the calibration is complete.
