Stake Line -- Show Description

I needed to shoot some cross-sections today, and I used Stake Line so I could stay on line. It worked great except that I couldn't figure out how to change (or even view) the current point description. I wanted to have Description and Point Name in the white boxes, but both those options were grayed out when I tried to assign them. What am I missing?

When you hit accept you should be seeing a screen that shows you the description, code, and attributes. Is it not?

Grayed out white box options means they are already on the screen (some black buttons are also customizable and included in the list). Don't you see them on the screen?

I'll take another look today, but I guess what I'm missing is the ability to change the description while the shot is in progress.

I tried to get a screenshot of the stake screen while using Stake Line this morning, but for some reason it didn't get stored. However, once the shot completes I can choose between Accept and Accept As. If I choose Accept the shot gets stored but I have no ability to enter -- or even see -- the description. If I choose Accept As I'm taken to another screen where I can change the description (among other things). But that's a lot of extra button-pushing, especially if you're taking a lot of shots, like I was on these long cross-sections. I don't understand why the description can't be a white button choice on the Stake Line collect screen.

I just looked at it. "Point Description" is a choice for a white button in stake out, but it is meant to display the description of the point being staked, not for entering the as staked position, so it doesn't appear to be useful for your purposes, Jim.

Regarding Accept As/Accept. In the action profile (make sure you're in stake mode), click on the stop after button and select Accept As New Point. This should be the default as the "Accept" button is not useful for most surveying applications. With Accept As New Point checked, the Accept button becomes Accept As and there is no need for a white button for this purpose. When Accept As is pressed, you have the option to enter the Code, Attributes and Description, but as you said, this must be done after the point is collected instead of during point collection.

"Accept" stores the survey data in the design point, which is clever, but difficult for exporting. "Accept As" creates a new survey point.

I often use the time spent collecting a shot to set code, attributes, and description, so I agree with Jim that it would be nice to be able to do that in Stake mode.

You might be best off to navigate to your line in Stake mode, then before collecting the point double press the hardware Collect button, start collecting, change description, etc., accept the point, then double press the hardware Stake button to navigate to your next point. It's more steps to remember and more button presses than I would like, but it works.

I'm not sure why I would want a white box to display the description or code of the point being staked. It's already at the top of the map. A white box to set the code or description of the point to be saved would be more useful.

I don't understand what you mean by "make sure you're in stake mode" -- I don't see a way to change the profile action in different modes.

I think I'm starting to catch on -- set up a copy of an action profile just for staking a line, leaving the original unchanged for normal collect work.

Thanks!

No. You can edit your regular action profile, just make sure you're in stake mode if you want to access the accept as option

Hmmm...I seem to be regressing.

Here's the action profile (Precise Topo) screen:

And here's what I see when I press the Stop After button:

I'm not seeing Accept As on that screen.

Switch to stake. Your set to collect

Well, I'll be darned -- I had no idea that different options were available with different modes. I was trying to edit the profile from the home screen instead of getting to it from the Stake screen. (I assume the home screen defaults to Colllect mode.) Are there any other modes to be aware of?
