T1M radio issue

I'm afraid one our 1M bases may have a significant issue. Last week it had one job where it failed to connect and start the base using the internal radio, so the crew using it just set up the external 35w and it started and worked fine. The next time they took it out the internal worked fine and has for a few days so we hoped it was just “one of those things”.

Today, they called me and neither radio would connect and/or start the base. I connected into it through Rams an did all I could from there but saw nothing out of the ordinary so I drove to our other office to visually see what was up. Going to connect works fine. Bluetooth finds the base and connects and shows internal radio, version number, etc. At this time the radio light on the 1M is red, but as soon as I go to set base it goes off completely and never comes back on.

We then turned everything off and hooked up the external radio and turned 1M back on. The Bluetooth turned green on the 1M so it appeared to find the external but when I turned on the LS and hit uhf config it doesn’t even find the external anymore.

To eliminate other parts, we have more than one system so I tried another LS with the “bad” 1M and got same result - nothing.
I then used the LS from the system with the “bad” 1M and a different 1M and it connected, started and got an ok-receiving-ok immediately.

Anyone have any idea what part in the 1M could have failed or what could be causing this

I assume you have already tried clearing the NVRAM on the T-1M? The next step would be for us to connect to the receiver through JSupport to invistigate the issue.

Yes, first thing I had them do was clear NVRAM doing a hard reset.
I'm going into the office this morning and try to reinstall the firmware - don't think that'll help - but couldn't hurt.
How do I get it set up to connect through JSupport?

Matthew Sibole helped me get connected on Jsupport. He posted some info on the private side.
I have my 1M, LS and external radio all on if anyone has a chance to look.

The communication team will probably look at it Sunday night so plug in the chargers. Is the radio connected to your PC?

We could also try repairing the radio by connecting the USB cord between the LS and radio.

Just an update. Yesterday, just to try something, I re installed the feature stable version of the firmware in the 1M and weather it helped or it just happened to work, the LS will now start and give me an ok...receiving....ok when setting the base - with the internal radio.
Still does not find the external radio. I did not re install firmware on radio or try unpairing and re pairing it.

Got in this morning and there's definitely have been some investigating on my system. At first, everything seemed to connect and start the base - with both the internal and external radios but then I started getting error messages again when trying to "stop the base".

Any update on what was found and if it needs to be shipped off?

I tried to replicate where I saw that error and I can't get it to come back up now......everything seems back to where it was Friday.

1M will connect to LS and radio light will go red - when I hit start base, red light on radio icon on 1M goes off and never comes back on. Does not ever give an ok...receiving...ok

Now, will also not connect at all to external radio again. It did once this morning....

Methinks it's time for a trip to San Jose.....:(

UPDATE: Thanks to Andrey!! According to Matthew Sibole Andrey was the one who fixed my issue (whatever it was). As of yesterday afternoon, the entire system - both internal and external radio were both connecting and setting the base as normal.

I would really, really be interested to know what the problem was though. Was it anything WE did by messing up any settings or was it just something got "bugged" and things had to be reinstalled/rebooted??
If it was anything we did, I'd like to know so as to avoid it in the future.

Thanks again guys!!

I think the problem is that when the T1-M establishes both a connection to both it's internal radio and then an external radio through Bluetooth, Serial port A is used for the external radio and then a Bluetooth connection with Base/Rover Setup can't be established because Serial port A is already being used. For switching radios be sure to use this process:

For switching to the internal radio:
1. Stop the Base and disconnect from the Base.
2. Turn off the external radio. Please do not turn on the external radio while working with the internal radio !!!!!
3. Connect to the Base and configure internal radio.

For switching to the external radio:
1. Stop the Base and disconnect from the Base.
1. Turn on external radio.
2. Connect to the Base and configure external radio.

I'd recommend having two UHF profiles to make things easier, a "UHF Internal Radio" profile and a "UHF External Radio" profile so can just select which you want to use and not have to configure the radio everytime you want to change it.
Two profiles make sense, but we’ve done it exactly how you describe above on three separate systems for almost THREE years and have never had this problem until last week.
Probably went back and forth on all three systems combined 500 to 1000 times and we’re just now noticing a problem?

This had to be something different.

I shut everything down 15 to 20 times (I’m VERY persistent:rolleyes:), hard reset everything and would turn nothing but the 1M and LS back on (no external at all yet) and it would NOT set the base. There was no other signal to occupy the port.

Supposedly, my T1M is on it’s way back from RMA. Turned out to be that the antenna (the stick) had failed so I had to pay for a new one of those in addition to a couple hundred dollars for “tests”.

We had mistakenly thought, when we purchased the system that ALL of it was warranted for 3 years. Turns out, ONLY the LS is 3 years, the T1M is only warranted for 1 year. Guess we should’ve read everything better and the repairs weren’t too bad, just thought it was the same as the LS.
