The "To Do" list for the LS

This is no particular order, but We are curious.... as to how and when it fits into the priorities....

1.) Add "Resume" to the collect screen. This would allow you to START a x minute session, on a monument in the road, Press STOP, move the LS out of the way, to let a few cars by, then after they are gone, put the LS back on the point in the road, and then press a button called RESUME, and it continues the observation.

2.) Modify the Confidence counter, so that if a group of 5 confidence is started, then other groups are made, then it RETURNS to the group with 5, and starts bumping it up to a higher number, this group gets priority. Another item that could be put here, is the ability to tell it to "Go straight to observation". This would be useful, when re-observing a previous shot, and you already know it has the correct "Group" or "Bucket", so you tell it to "Go straight to observation".

3.) Release of the "Smart Tip". Which NOW contains a controller, a bit like the "Bop it" kids toy... you can start, stop, and perform a limited amount of control, over the LS, by shaking, or hitting the "Smart tip". In essence, it becomes a remote controller.

I don't work for Javad, but I am a very happy user. I'm the guy in the dirt, using it. My LS has a few dings in it now, not bad, but I'm feeding my family with it.

I am glad to see so much happening.
No other mfr is listening, to the degree that Javad is.
Thank you.

First two are already done.
Then that makes us even more anxious :). When can WE use them in a new "release" version?
I'm in the dirt like Nate describes, putting the LS where I've never put a GPS before. Using every aspect it has plus trying to think of anything else that might make it better because I know the team will listen, and if it's worthwhile, try and implement it!

It's really cool to not fail on groups anymore. You can also set how long you want verification to last.

New verification is a dream in canopy.
How so, Shawn, I'm not familiar with how it's going to work although I recall some rumblings about being able to keep collecting on the best groups (buckets) instead of having to start over. EDIT: I see Adam and I were posting at the same time so I believe I have a pretty good idea now.

Hi Dave, in the next release the verification stage will not fail on number of groups, J field keeps up with all the groups but only displays the number of groups desired, up to six. You will also be able to control the duration of verification.

Hmmmm I thought it was a number of resets... 10? So, duration, is a time?

Yup, I'm jumpin up an down!

Yes , it still is resets. Now you will be able to set number resets and time.

I couldn't stand it any longer! I installed the pre release updates this morning to try out the new verification settings and all I can say is bravo! I only used it on a small heavily wooded site and am sure I'll see more differences the longer I use it but it seems this is exactly what most of us have been asking for! Never, ever has there been a design team that responds to their clients requests like this. The third point I was on was tough, about 4' away from a 24" tree. The LS started as normal, went through its maximum of 6 buckets and went to phase 2. Then halfway through phase 2, it dumped the session with the dreaded cha chink. Usually, it's "well crap we've got to start all over". Nope, not anymore - it immediately went back to the phase 1 screen with all the original buckets still intact! Picked right back up where it left off and within a couple minutes kicked back to phase 2 and this time onto phase 3 and done. Then after storing, the second "check" shot was almost immediate, as it very often is. Seems like once the LS finds and validates the point it stays "locked on" even through a reset tracking.

Then I got to the point I was really curious on. I knew where this one was going to be, down in a deep dark hole. Probably went through what would've been 20 or 30 buckets but of course now it doesn't throw them out. After about 12 minutes the heaviest weighted shifted to a 4 epoch batch with about 320 seconds. It re sorts the six buckets shown now, it seems, based on weighting 1 through 6 so it moved up to the top left bucket. It then continued on with that bucket into phase 2 and 3 and I stored the point, along with a 15 min dpos. The whole point took about 17 minutes and I'd almost guarantee that without it "holding" all the data I'd have been there 30-40 minutes and probably wouldn't have ever gotten an RTK shot. Sure I'd have had two dpos points to check but now I can get many more RTK solutions quicker because any good data the LS is getting is not getting "tossed" out and having to start over from scratch.

The pause and resume options on the collection session is also great as well as now being able to "attach for post processing" a dpos session anytime not just when it's reached my 15 minute minimum setting. I know these points could always be base processed by choosing "process all points with raw data" but sometimes I prefer just having a select few marked for processing. This allows that flexibility.

Again, great stuff team. As Nate said in another thread, this is the best piece of surveying equipment that has ever been made!

Okay so where in pre-release mode now with the new changes?
So... How long in pre release, until it goes to release?
(sorry... Just hankerin!)

Bangity Bangity Bang!!!
I moved up to version
We have a winner. This latest version of Collection Software, ie, the way it handles "Jump Fails" is WAY beyond awesome!!!
It is following a concept of "Every step, a forward step". Now, it does not "Throw everything out and start over". It only throws things into a box of "I don't think this is right, so I'll set it over here, pending further data". It keeps this up, until it resolves and has full confidence.

I'd say that the NUMBER ONE GOOD thing about the Javad Paradigm that makes it worth while, is the CONFIDENCE in your data.

Also, I like the Interactive Compass, at point desc. REALLY do like it.
When working in a HARSH environment, the MORE things work EASY and SMOOTH, the better.
And, I have a bit of another request on this point.
When you are entering the POINT DESC.
You hit the button that brings up all the characters + = # .
There is COMPASS.
You hit that COMPASS button. You rotate the LS to point to the object you are wishing to reference. You hit the check button. (good)
Then, the LAST step is to press accept.
Could we add another button there, called "ACCEPT WITH PHOTO".
Now, it takes a PICTURE of the witness tree, that it is pointed at, and it ATTACHES that pic to the POINT. And, in the pic is the BEARING or AZIMUTH, and now, 20 yrs from now, you can review the PDF output file, and actually SEE the tree, or whatever was? Since the LS is using a "Fixed Focal Length" camera, and you are going to have a DISTANCE to the object, we can now determine the SIZE of the tree, from the pic. Quite literally, just by measuring across the photo, with a drafting scale, and then knowing the multiplication factor.... Of course, we usually get dist to middle of base of tree.. and the cam can only "See" the face of the tree, and it's profile. But, we can get it close. This is simply "More Evidence". Evidence of the size, and texture of the bark... etc.
I am confident that eventually we will see an EDM or DME integrated with the LS, but I think that adding photo will simply be a "forward step".

At some point, I believe we will be getting away from paper copies of Survey Plats....

And, we will have something called "Interactive Plat". View it on a computer, and you can see the plat. But, we will have the ability to embed photos, and videos. And, that these photos and videos will be embedded so that we can "See" conditions at the time of the survey.
There will be a little symbol on the plat, that shows the location and direction the camera is pointing. Click the icon, and now we can see what the camera was pointed at. This is already sort of available now, in some GIS systems, but it is not all integrated and available to everybody.
I am excited about all the new developments from Javad.

Thanks for your consideration.

You can actually do this now by just pressing the PrtScn hardware button and it will capture that screenshot and attach to the point being surveyed.
