Time to Update?

Just thought about looking at my firmware version, and looks like I am running 3.6.3 from July 2015. Wondering if I should/need to update the firmware on my T1Ms? With all the talk about beast and upsampling, I am not sure I am able to utilize that stuff since I use a Carlson DC. Goa few big projects coming up, so I don't want to break something that works, but then again, if things will work better, then I want to take advantage for sure.

Anyone else using the same setup with advice?

Welllll my suggestion is to get an LS, and play with it. I know... learning curve... starting over.... All that good stuff, but if you want cutting edge, um, no, make that BLEEDING edge technology, you will have to move to the LS.
It is a shift... I have used TDS, and Carlson... and it is different. But, that is what it takes.

Nate,
I had an LS in my hands a year before you did, I decided it wasn't for me - still isn't.

I like what I have, just want to get the most out of it.

That I would consider to be a FACTOR in your statement, "It wasn't for me". (With all due respect)

It has CHANGED so much since then.

IF I had gotten it a year before I did, there is at least a 50/50 chance, I'd be in the SAME point of view, as you mention.

IF you can get a 2 hr look at it... in it's current configuration.... there is a fair chance you will see what I mean... having said that, Even if you do that, there is a chance you will say: "Nope, not for me" BECAUSE you need Total Station interface, and other things, of such like.

The LS is DESIGNED to be the ultimate GPS survey device. It does not do any robotic, total station, or such. (Of course, you already know that!)
My paradigm is set up... such that I have NOT looked through a TS in over a year.

It may require there to be fully operational Galileo, and Bediu, AND in integrated EDM inside the LS, or a bluetooth EDM piggy backed on the LS, for you to like it... But, as I said, it just works with my paradigm, if you can stomach the change in form factor. I acknowledge, not everybody can.
I don't have a T-1, or T-1m, So, I cannot answer your question... signing off!

Worked well here, but forgot to change the rod on some shots afterward of course, but that was easily fixed.

Try this in pine trees and let me know how it does. No GPS likes pines!
While that is true Clifton, I have gotten many, many verified validated shots directly underneath not just A pine tree but in pine thickets. Also in cedars as well. Here's one I posted in the post pics of difficult shots thread a while back.

Clifton I've gotten some shots and I totally would not get with any other piece of equipment. Pine thickets. Serious pain tickets. I'm usually there for 30 minutes plus. But it gets thoroughly verified usually with two or three shots. The bottom line is nothing works better in a Thicketthan a Javad LS.

I have been in some pretty big pine forests and had success, it just takes time.

Cedars are not a problem. Pines are. What you are showing is not what I consider canopy. Just minor cover.
Right this photo wasn't representing the total canopy I've gotten many shots in before, just the fact that is was directly under that pine and the LS was literally 4" off the trunk was what was amazing. I'd bet it'd be safe to say no other GPS out there would've gotten this shot - especially two separate validated shots within 10 minutes.
